Smart Friends

I can think of two people in my life who I think are wicked smart. Mandi and Bethany. Two of my friends, I worked with both of them. It seemed as if everything came easy for them-at least on the surface. Perhaps if I ask them, they may not agree with me.

Mandi

I worked with Mandi in a pharmacy. The name of the pharmacy is unimportant. We were co-workers with the same work ethic. Do the job and do it right the first time. Mandi worked with narcotics. Accountability is huge in this area. If she were filling a prescription for someone and dropped a pill it was urgent that the pill be found. So, at all times a thorough search was conducted including the floor and underneath all desks and countertops. I’d have to say Mandi took good care that that never happened on her watch. She was adamant about documentation and staying on top of the pill count. She had her own secure room where she worked, and she didn’t want anyone coming in and making errors. A strict disciplinarian, Mandi wasn’t afraid to call anyone out if she found something wrong. Including the Pharmacists who worked there. That was her room, and she was responsible.  Most of the time as I observed Mandi it seemed as if she knew more about her job than the Pharmacists who worked with her. Her mind is as sharp as a tack, and I give the girl a huge amount of credit for the job she did while employed at the pharmacy.

To say she is wicked smart is an understatement. She is more than that. I’ve watched her work and am amazed at her speed and the accuracy with which she handles narcotics. Not an easy job. But Mandi handled it like the consummate professional she is. I hated the narcotic room and stayed as far away from it as I could.

Mandi, being as smart as she is, soon outgrew the pharmacy and moved on to a different job. It was a sad day in everyone’s lives who worked with her the day she left. She remains a friend of mine to this day, even though we do not see each other often. Mandi is a strong confident woman who takes nothing laying down and is up for any challenge.

Bethany

Most of my career I spent in law enforcement. This is where I met Bethany. Being a training officer, she appeared at the front door of the jail and spoke her name and said it was her first day of work. Weighing in at about 98 pounds, I thought to myself she is not going to last. I was dead wrong. She has the body of a teenage girl but the mind and forethought of someone much older. She is wicked smart and my training with her was not so much as a training but more like fortifying a friendship. She learned quickly. Telling her something one time was enough. She had it and I didn’t have to repeat myself. There are many different areas to learn when you strive to be a great correctional officer. You need to have rapport with the inmates and Bethany had an easy understanding of how that worked. To not be overly friendly, but to be stern and also have empathy. The girl had all of it and soon became one of the favorite officers at the jail. Her rapport with the inmates was excellent as well as her booking procedures, pat downs, and wellness checks. She was a top-notch officer.

She progressed through the ranks and became a sergeant. By this time, I had retired but it didn’t surprise me at all when I heard the news. She no longer works at the jail; she has moved onto bigger and better things. Bethany is now a nurse. Totally 390 spin nursing vs law enforcement. But it is not shocking if you know Bethany. I am sure she excels at this job as she did her job at the jail. She is not only wicked smart but beautiful too. A strong woman who I knew would go far in life.

Intense Intelligent Women

Women with a zest for life and a go get it attitude are not hard to find. Every workplace has them. Of course, being extremely smart is an added advantage. Befriend these types of women and you will enrich your life. These two ladies aren’t the only wicked smart women I know, the names Heidi and Bradi pop into my mind. I’ve also had the extreme pleasure of working with both these women, and my life is better for it. Surround yourself with strong women. Women who have their heads on straight and know where they are headed in life. It was my pleasure working with all who are mentioned in this post. I miss all of them and wish them only the best.

Intelligent women the world needs more of them.
