Warm Weather
This is the time of year I get a big smile on my face. The weather is warming up. The sun shines brightly, and my feet hit the pavement.
Run in the Right Shoes
It’s almost that time of year for new running shoes for me. My husband has, bless his heart, bought me a new pair for my birthday for quite a while now. We go to Scheels, a department store near us once a year to buy new running shoes. I should go in earlier than that, switch them out every six months but I do not.
Will it be Brooks this year? Or another brand. I’ve run in Brooks for years, but last year they didn’t have my size. I have wide feet, so I went with a different shoe. It took three runs before I was comfortable with my new shoes. After my first run I was ready to take them back, but I gave it a couple more runs and I grew accustomed to them. They are lightweight. Lighter than my Brooks. Which I like. Normally we go in and I tell the store clerk Brooks size 7 ½ wide and I try them on and purchase them. Last year was a different story. It is always nice to try new things. Diversity is wonderful.
Perfect Weather
Today is supposed to be 69 degrees. Perfect running weather. I have run outside three or four times already this year. I endured the colder weather, so I didn’t have to face the treadmill. A hat on my head and gloves on my hands. There was a cold wind making it an unpleasant run. The wind today should be warm enough so I can possibly run longer. My last three runs were only 3 miles. This one will be longer.
I get so excited with warmer weather it’s hard to hold back. My runs will be an hour instead of half an hour. There is nothing that gives me a high like running with the sun in my face.
Bears, Oh My
I know with warmer weather the bears are out of hibernation. This leads me to think I’m better off running uptown than in the country. I am quite sure I do not want to run across a mama bear with a cub. It is my worst nightmare. In the country there is a creek I run past where bears have been spotted. I always tell myself to go purchase pepper spray. It could come in handy. Although I think I’d need to be up close and personal for it to work.so, no thank you. Furthermore, when I run in town I don’t worry much about dogs and traffic as I do with country running. It’s 55 miles an hour on our road so getting into town is a blessing. Slower traffic and normally if dogs are outside, they are fenced in or on a chain.
Go Tammy
My sister Tammy is a runner also so Tam if you are reading this, this week is a perfect week for running outside. Next week we are back to cooler weather once again. Only in Wisconsin. Tammy is younger than me, so she works and has less time than I do. Retirement has its perks.
It’s nearing noon on my watch so that’s it for now. I’m going to go enjoy the sunshine and warm weather.
Make it a good day!
Side note: I ran for an hour. It was fantastic!
