Seriously

We took Ernie to the vet yesterday to get his stitches out. His appointment was at 8:30. We arrived at 8:15 am and we were escorted into a room to wait. 9:00 am we were still waiting; they are busy today. Shortly after 9 a vet tech came and took Ernie to get his stitches out. Ten minutes later she was back with him. She told us they cleaned him up because the drainage from the tubes resulted in matted fur on Ernie. Having noticed that myself I thanked them for cleaning him up. I looked down at Ernie and on his side where they removed the stitches was a wide open sore. I said, “Oh my God" the vet tech looked and repeated what I had said. She also said she didn’t notice it when she brought him in. She picked him up and took him back to the vet.

A Waiting Game

Gary and I waited again, the vet came back in with Ernie and told us she had to staple his wound, and also put staples in the wound on his belly because it didn’t close up. She said she was worried about that when she saw it and doesn’t know why the emergency vet put in a tube that big on his belly. She informed Gary and I we need to wait for ten days to see if his wounds have healed if not, he will need to be sedated again and stitches put in once again. Poor Ernie. As if he hasn’t gone through enough already. All because people cannot keep their animals on a leash or fenced in. Ernie suffers because of it. It isn’t fair nor right.

Cone of Shame

Ernie has had a cone on his neck for weeks and continues to do so. I was sent a text message by a friend telling me about surgical dog suits you can buy through Amazon. I ordered one for Ernie, so he doesn’t have to wear the cone anymore. So, thank you Jodi for the information. I’m sure this will be more comfortable for him. I just have to make sure he isn’t licking himself and causing an infection. With our luck that would be the next thing that happens, an infection setting in.

Dogs Amaze Me

Ernie still continues to want to play. This dogs endurance for pain amazes me. Maybe he is used to it, as sad as that seems. He sure has been given the short end of the stick for most of his life.

Living His Dream

Before all this happened, he was pretty much living the dream with daily walks and a huge back yard to explore and run in. Now it seems as if all we do is run him to the vet. The vet told us he was very good when he was with them considering what they were doing to him. Like I said earlier, I believe he is used to being mistreated. Not that the vet staff were mistreating him but I’m sure getting stapled up didn’t feel the best.

Hope for the Best

Now once again we play a waiting game. Ten days cannot go by fast enough for us or for Ernie. Say a prayer for Ernie, hoping his wounds heal and he doesn’t have to be sedated once again.

He deserves at least one lucky break in his life, doesn’t he?
