Is Yours Unique
My name is in no way unique. Do you have the pleasure of having a name everyone remembers when they meet you? Because how could you forget with a name like that? Just a few, Montgomery, Thorne, Flynn, and Orson. I think I’d remember if I ever met them. Because I love their names. They stick out like a sore thumb. In a good way.
I'm Ordinary in an Extraordinary Way
My name, Wendy, is ordinary in every way. Nothing unusual about it. Perhaps that’s why I’m ordinary in every way. I don’t outshine anyone, nor do I stick out in a crowd. This has led me through my life to where I am today. The beauty in the photo above is my sisters grandchild. Her name is Bella. That is a beautiful name. She owns it, she looks like a Bella. She is a beautiful child.
63 years young with two part time jobs. It is my lot in life. I accept it as well as embrace it because it could be so much worse. I have a husband who loves me and two dogs, add on three kids and three grandkids, what’s not to love with my life? Thanking my lucky stars is something I do every morning. I’m still breathing, my feet still take me on a three-mile run every morning or afternoon. If I look around me there are many people so much worse off. The world is cruel if it wants to be.
What’s in a name? Your name defines you. It makes you who you are. If someone called me anything other than Wendy, I wouldn’t know how to respond.
William Who?
If you are William Shakespeare, you’d say that which we call a rose by any other word, would still smell as sweet. Meaning names are just a convention and have no meaning. I’m not sure I agree with that. A name is something given to you at birth. We can spend our entire lives trying to live up to it. It is an important part of our identity. Some people change their name. To me, this is odd because someone calling me anything, but Wendy would give me pause. I’d think they were speaking to someone else. Many times a baby is named after a grandparent or a great grandparent. The name carries with it deep personal family history.
What is the proverb about a name? A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold. Yes, I googled that. Google is a great tool. I use it often.
Unusual girl names, Allegra, Calista, Tamara, and Annalise, a person favorite of mine. I love unusual female names maybe because mine is so run of the mill ordinary.
Does Yours Define You
Do you think a name can perhaps shape the course of your life? Maybe, if you let it. Olaf is a good example. Or Harold. Neither one gives me that zing when I hear them. Kind of like Wendy. It doesn’t give me a zing either. I’m stuck with it though, so I make the best of it.
Whatever your name is, fly with it and make it strong. After all it’s only a name. It doesn’t define you, or does it?
Love your name or hate it. It’s yours to keep.
Own it.
