In the Works
Is another run in the works for me? Can I possibly do one more? Yes, I can. It is called the Buckshot Run, and it’s held in September in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. It is a five-mile run. One mile shorter than my first run. It should be a piece of cake. I’ve ran this one before a few times and don’t know why I haven’t signed up every year since then. Maybe I’ve been busy and forgot about it. One thing I do not remember is how hilly it is, but it cannot be any worse than my last run. That one was hilly. I don’t mind one hill but if there are a lot of them it really saps my energy. I’m always glad when I make it to the top and hopefully go downhill after that. I run a hill when I run in the country, so it isn’t like I’m not used to them. There is also a big one I run when I run uptown also. It helps me to run hills because when I’m in a race I’ll often best people because they walk the hills. Not me, I keep going. Stopping is something I do not do. Unless it’s unavoidable.
No Matter What Just Run
September runs can be windy runs. I’ll pray for no wind and nice weather. You never know with September it could go either way.
I’m running in my new Brooks shoes. They are the absolute best for me. I will forever run in Brooks.
Having not run the Buckshot Run for a few years I do not remember the course. How many hills there are and how steep they are. I’ll find out come September. Hopefully it will be a cooler day, by that I mean 70’s. I don’t like running in the cold, nor do I like a strong wind. A 70-degree day with no wind would be perfect for me. I won’t count on that in September.
Last One Never
Most likely this will be my last race for the year. I know there will be other races in October and even November but count me out. Last winter I ran outside the entire season. I’m hoping for another winter like that. I won’t keep my fingers crossed, this being Wisconsin. The state of Friday winters and long cold spells. Icy storms and ice-covered roads. Last winter was a fluke, uncommon for those of us who live here. I took it and ran with it. Thoroughly enjoying the heck out of the season. Spring came and went, and now summer surrounds us with its glory. All too soon to be gone and replaced by Fall.
So, get out, enjoy, soak up the sun while you can. Live every day like there is no tomorrow. Because maybe there isn’t. Don’t dwell on the past, look toward the future. Some of us will be here, some of us won’t.
Me, I’ll keep pounding the pavement because it’s where my feet are the happiest. Until my body tells me I can’t run anymore, I’ll continue on down the road.
If you drive through Stanley, Wisconsin and see someone running. It’s a good possibility it could be me. Or any of the fifty people who run here. I see them all over.
Feet to the blacktop, let’s go!
