Take a Stand
Have you ever ventured into the social media land called Twitter? If you have, you most likely would remember it. Not only is it filled with hatred and untruths. It’s shockingly horrid. People say the most mean and awful things to one another.
Is it Necessary
I started an account because of my blog. I wanted to post my stories on Twitter. Having done so I do not think people are interested in what I have to say. Twitter is mostly about politics. It runs amuck. It is a revolving door of right versus left. Republicans and democrats. Being independent myself I was soon drawn in by the posts I was seeing. It is easy to get hooked on this fast-paced crazy people cyber world.
As I scrolled down, I’d find myself saying, “Did someone actually just post this?” Can people really get away with saying what they say? Is no one getting sued? It seems hatred is alive and well in America and it starts with Twitter.
Political Enemies
The political world is huge on Twitter. The President has an account which I am almost positive he doesn’t actually engage and write or respond to anything. He has people who write things for him and post them for him. He is much too busy to involve himself into something this frivolous.
People following other people seem to be the catch on Twitter. The more followers you have the better off you are. It gives you an elite status apparently. Like they say on Cheers, “where everybody knows your name.”
People can say to anyone on Twitter what they couldn’t possibly say if they were face to face. You are anonymous. Say whatever the heck you want to say. Most people do.
It's All a Sham
I’ve seen disturbing stuff, there doesn’t seem to be any decency or decorum. No morals or values. It’s a slugfest, the dirtier the better. People lap it up. Politicians are by far the raunchiest, deep down dirty fighters I’ve witnessed in my lifetime. Many of them believe their way is the only way. If you do not believe what they believe you are wrong. Not them, no way can they be incorrect. People in Congress are the worst bunch of backstabbing politically incorrect people on twitter.
Should I Engage
After being on Twitter for a while I started commenting on a few posts. Many people responded and liked what I commented except one guy. He called me a “fat cow.” Which I took offense to because for one thing I do not have my photo on twitter so how he would know what I looked like perplexes me. What kind of person puts anything like that online anyway? I’d say someone not intelligent, with a lack of morals, the bar is set low. Ignoring his comment was something I did. Only responding to positive comments is how I operate. Most times I do not respond at all. That way there is no bad talk back and forth.
I’ve often told my husband Gary I’m going to get into politics. After being on Twitter however I may want to rethink that. There is no shortage of insults hurled back and forth between people. It works for them because there is no face to face involved.
At times I’ll find things amusing. But if it involves Roe vs Wade, I’ll put my two cents in. My body my choice. It is my firm belief. The government shouldn’t control what I choose to do with my body.
Twitter is full of opinions and opinionated people. Who, by the way, are always in the right.
From celebrities to everyday people. Many of them exist on Twitter.
I always try to inject respect with my comments. Not wanting to stoop to anyone’s level. Keeping it real and taking the high ground.
Twitter, the real world. Only if you think so.
