Unsatisfied Customers
I know I’ve spoken about this before, but it bears repeating. In the medical field, such as it is, we all have a primary doctor we go to for our physicals, if we have symptoms of a rash, or questions we want answered or are worried about. This is who we would call. In all seriousness can someone tell me exactly what our primary doctors do for us? The one thing I know they are good at is sending us to specialists. Our primary doctors cannot seem to diagnose or treat an ailment. Besides our normal wellness exams, checking our heart, pap smears if you are a woman, along with a breast exam. Is this all they are trained for? Is it the normal procedure for them to send us to specialists?
My Poor Husband
My husband Gary is a prime example. He has been on his medical journey now for about a year and a half. The only thing he has been diagnosed with is a pulled groin. He was told he should not do any physical activity for three to four months. If you know my husband at all, that will not happen. Too much to do around the house and in the garage. Gary has had internal issues since I have known him. They have only continued to get worse. The doctors and specialists have done test after test on him and come up with nothing. Ultrasounds, stomach scopes, colonoscopies, CT scans, you name they did it. All results are negative. He has blood in his stool, he never feels good. Imagine waking up in the morning feeling ill. The day goes on and it doesn’t get any better. Gary has to push himself to do anything. Work out in the garage, plow snow, change the brakes on our vehicles. There is a never-ending list of projects around the house and in the garage, he could be working on. He naps, sometimes two to three times a day. Is this normal? I am not a napper so I wouldn’t know. It seems excessive to me. Apparently, he needs them. Even if it is just ten minutes.
Hot tub Cure
The only thing that seems to ease Gary’s pain is the hot tub. We got ours from Costco, check it out. Gary sits in it a lot. Sometimes twice daily. It is out on our deck and my husband says we will never sell it. It is the best purchase we have ever made. Like I said, he feels better when he gets out. It isn’t long though that he is once again feeling like garbage.
Don't Eat
Eating can make him feel rotten. I have to watch what I make. Spaghetti sauce doesn’t agree with him. So, for most meals' pasta is out-it bothers his stomach. He can eat rice without being affected so we eat a lot of rice. Potatoes bother him also but most times he cannot stay away from them. He loves hash browns, and he loves cheese. If I fix a meal, we eat healthy. If Gary fixes it himself, he tends to go in the opposite direction. He will go to McDonalds. Says he feels the best after he eats one of their meals. I have to give him credit though, he has almost given up that bad habit. He eats there rarely now. I am huge on salads, veggies, and oatmeal. I can make a meal out of oatmeal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Add blueberries, strawberries, raisins, and some chia seeds. That satisfies me. Gary is not satisfied with a salad or oatmeal. He needs more. Although he has cut back on his portion size. Which is huge, a big part of losing weight. He says he could stand to lose a couple pounds. Who doesn’t need to lose a few? I always tell him we are too old now to worry about that. Unless it is affecting his health.
What Can We Do
What do we do about the doctor? If anyone has any suggestions, we gladly accept all words of advice. The medical field is supremely frustrating and expensive. They get paid no matter if they figure out what is wrong with us, or if they do not. To me this is unacceptable. I do not believe they should get paid until they diagnose us with whatever it is that is wrong. Why pay someone who hasn’t done a thing to help us out? This is the only profession that is this way. If we are working and doing nothing, would we get paid, or perhaps lose our job? Same thing. The doctors do nothing for Gary but continue to send us bills. As I said, they get paid either way. It is very off putting and unsettling.
Why can they not get a grasp on what is going on inside my husband's body? He has been sent to numerous specialists and they do not diagnose him, they just charge us a higher fee with no result. He did go to a specialist to get diagnosed with a pulled groin. Seriously, it took a specialist to tell Gary he has a pulled groin. Couldn’t his primary doctor have done that. If his primary doctor cannot diagnose a pulled groin, maybe he should go back to medical school. So, if the specialists do not know what is wrong with Gary, what is our next step?
Right now, Gary is frustrated with the entire medical profession, and I cannot say I blame him. He continues to feel like garbage, we now face a huge medical debt. Because, yes, the bills keep coming. Don’t get me started on health insurance. Another big scam the insurance companies pull on us all. We cannot live without it, and most people cannot afford it.
Doctors Are Overrated
Going to the doctor is overrated. I choose not to. So far, I have been lucky and have not needed to. It is a different story with my husband. He gets upset and says he is just going to live with it. But then starts feeling so bad he needs to get to the bottom of it. So far there is no bottom. It is a bottomless pit which we get sucked into. An endless money sucking machine. A revolving door my husband keeps going through. That is what the medical profession is.
Gary recently had another ultrasound done, and surprisingly they found nothing. Not sure if you sense my sarcasm but it’s there front and center. Now he is back to square one. Once again disillusioned and bewildered with nowhere left to turn. He continues to not feel good and he continues to push himself to work.
Is Gary supposed to continue going to the doctor or sadly enough live out the rest of his life feeling miserable on a daily basis. Saddled with a million-dollar doctor bill for absolutely no suggestions or ideas from his numerous doctors.
I am not sure what the answer is, I just wish there was one.
