Trees and More

Who doesn’t love nature? City people, those who were born in the city, stayed in the concrete jungle, love everything about the city. Not me at all. I grew up in the country and always wanted to live in the city. Did it for years and finally realized the country is where I want to be. Currently I live in the country. An acre of land isn’t nearly enough but it’s home. My sister Tammy lives on 80 acres. So, I live vicariously through her. She is lucky. She knows it. Her and her husband live, eat, and prosper off of their 80 acres. As it should be.

Serenity

Living in the country brings me peace. There is nowhere I’d rather be. We have a house we are almost done renovating. We have an acre of land we take care of. A deck with a hot tub on it. (my husband claims it’s the best purchase we’ve ever made).

During the summer months I have a small garden. Tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, yellow beans, and peppers. If it’s a good year I get a lot of everything, if it isn’t I do not. This year the rabbits ate my bean plants before they had a chance to grow. Along with some of my flowers.

Living in the country means not having close neighbors. Bonus for both Gary and I. We panicked a little bit when someone bought the land next to us. But a church is being built there so we will deal with that. A family moving in would have been devastating for both of us. We would like to keep the no close neighbor policy going if we can.

Quiet People

We also have a cemetery on one side of us. Those who are buried there are our best neighbors. Quiet and stay to themselves. Just the way we like it. There is a field to the east of us and also to the west. We are hoping and praying they stay fields, and no one builds on them. We are only about a half a mile from the city, so if it extended out to us somehow it would be crushing. I have no doubt in time it will but hopefully Gary and I are long gone by then.

Good morning, Mother Nature

Getting up in the morning and being able to look out the window and not see directly into your neighbor's house is a blessing. Just the thought of it gives me goosebumps. Neighbors that close would be annoying and irritating. Not sure how people who live in the city deal with it. All I know is it is not for me nor my husband. Neighborhood block parties are not for us either. I attended them when I lived in the city and never liked them. Forced to conjure up conversation with a neighbor you may not care for is excruciating and boring. Leave me out please. Out in the country we mind our own business. That’s how we like it. That’s how it is. Where we live anyway. We know none of our neighbors and we could care less.

Red Sky at Night

The sky at night in the country is amazing. It looks different in the city. Don’t take my word for it. Drive around in the country and find out. Threes are beautiful, but most importantly I think it is the serenity of the country that captures me. It leaves me wanting more.

It is a necessity when we are in the hot tub. We wouldn't want our next-door neighbor popping over asking if he or she could join us. No thanks. At night we can get out naked if we want to. No one is around to see. It’s the beauty of the country. Maybe certain people would find it lonely. Not me or my husband. I’m good with being by myself. Neighbors are overrated and unwanted. We will listen to the frisk of the frogs and the chirping of the crickets. It’s heaven on earth.

Maybe I’m a secret survivalist. Whatever it is, I'm here to stay.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.
