Amateurs
We all love to take photos of special events in our lives. Weddings, family get-together, brunch with friends.
Photos are an everlasting memory we can look back on. Remembering that special occasion with a tear in our eye. Photographers have that gift of capturing the perfect moment at the perfect time. That is why they get paid and the rest of us amateurs do not.
We try though, not to get paid but to capture the perfect moment in time.
The birth of a baby, a beautiful sunset, a vacation to end all vacations. We all love to look back and recapture that time in our lives.
Can We Do This?
How do we become a photographer? It seems like it would be such an exciting career. Doing what we love to do, take pictures. Traveling to exotic places, being a wildlife photographer would be the life for me. Elephants, giraffes, gorillas, antelope, all captured in their natural environment. Nothing could be more exciting. I'm envious of whomever does this for a living.
Looking online for photography courses is an option. In order to be successful, I believe passion must already exist deep down inside our body. Snapping photographs is what we live for. Some people have the knack for it, others don’t.
Looking at a professional photographers' photo we become one with the photo. A small boy huddled in the street, ragged clothing, a hungry look on his face. We feel empathy. A street kid trying to survive. If a photograph can make us feel that the photographer has hit the jackpot. A great photograph is said to be worth a thousand words.
One Of the Greatest
Ansel Adams was considered one of the greatest photographers of our time. He was known for his black and white images of the American West. He passed away in 1984. Paving the way for others.
The Greedy Ones
Commercial photographers are by far the most popular in our world today. Earning over $100,000 they are in high demand. Celebrity photographers are in a different arena. Their greatest joy is capturing a celebrity at their most awkward moment. The pay is more if it is scandalous. To me, the business seems cheapened, may the most crooked, immoral man survive. Greed and corruption are widespread in this field. Everyone out for themselves-selling their photographs to the highest bidder. The Enquirer comes to mind, this paper has been sued numerous times by celebrities for printing stories along with photos that don’t ring true.
Oh, the life of a photographer. Those of us who are on the sidelines wishing we could do what they do are envious, but also in awe of their talent.
My talents run a little on the blurry side. At times I can capture the most perfect photo; but those are far and few between. So, I’ll leave this field to the ones who know what they are doing. The ones with the raw talent needed for this profession filled with desperation. Forever looking for the perfect shot.
Since I don’t believe anyone will be knocking on my door anytime soon offering to pay for my photos. I’ll leave you with these!
I won’t quit my day job.
