Are You Afraid
Are you scared under your blankets in the dead of night? If you hear a noise, do you pull the blankets over your head? Afraid to move, afraid to take a peak? It may be the boogeyman, wait and see. Isn’t it better to look? To take a peek open your eyes. It may all be a dream. What is that shadow? Is it real or just in my imagination? The dark is so dark. The door is closed tight. It's just you and this shadow.
You boost up your courage and pull the blankets aside. Your eyes are wide open. You look all around. The air is so thick, you can't take a breath. Shivers control your body; goosebumps collide with one another. Does the night heed a warning, for all to listen to? Stay in your bed, believe in the truth. The boogeyman can’t get you if you believe. There is a protection in goodness. It will prevail. The boogeyman hides behind his weaknesses. He comes out only in the dark.
Are The Tales True
He is older than time itself. He’s been around forever. He takes whatever shape or form is your worst nightmare. He doesn’t come to visit unless you open the door. Invite him in; he’ll come in gladly. He slithers and slides as he comes through the door. Once he's inside it is almost impossible to get rid of him. He is here to stay. He is at the forefront of your mind. You see him everywhere. He follows you, and when the sun sets, and the moon is high he visits you in your sleep. You toss and you turn, and you wake up with your heart pounding. Sweat runs down your face and the silence is so loud it hurts your ears. Are you alone in your bedroom? The closet door is closed. Is he under your bed? You are too scared to move and too scared to check. The dark is so thick you cannot see your hand in front of your face. It’s 3 am, the witching hour. All kinds of things can happen and none of them are good. Is that footsteps you hear right outside your door? Is someone standing there? Has the boogeyman come to call? All of these things are possibilities. When darkness approaches, something wicked this way comes.
Sleep Is Impossible
It’s almost impossible to go back to sleep. The blankets are twisted, the pillows are damp with your sweat. It won’t be light out for hours. The need to use the bathroom is bad, but getting out of bed is a catastrophic thought. Will the boogeyman grab me? He feeds off your fear. Will he pull me into a different universe? Somewhere I’ll never find my way out of. Lost forever in a vast darkness, with sounds that cause nightmares. The scaping of long yellowed fingernails on an impossibly aged hand. The screams and the terror of thousands of souls. Lost in this place where God doesn’t exist. He cannot come and save you. He doesn't know you’re here. The boogeyman has taken you; he has no fear.
Just open your eyes, it’s all been a dream. It is just something parents tell their children, so they don’t go astray; or set foot outside after dark. The boogeyman is waiting. It keeps them in line and instills a deep fear. It is a fear of the unknown, a shadowy ghoul. He is all shapes and sizes and comes in many different forms. He’s made up of nightmares and takes little kids for treats. He’s violent and vivid. He’s real in your mind.
The boogeyman is coming. He’s aiming for you. He’s hiding and waiting. For just the right moment. When you are most vulnerable. He strikes with a viciousness and ferocity you won’t see coming.
When darkness encroaches, the sun is no more. He sneaks in like a thief. He breathes in your ear.
Open your eyes the boogeyman is nearby.
Have a great day everyone.
