Will It Ever Get Done

Our bathroom upstairs has been a work in progress for many years. My son moved in with us, so Gary made a make-shift bathroom for him. A toilet and a sink. In an unfinished room. It worked for the time Jeremy spent with us. Which was a couple of years. What more do you need? A shower would be nice. It needs to be drywalled, floored, and finished. It is full of items that do not belong in a bathroom. Like our Christmas tree, numerous old shoes and boxes of tile, which will eventually be placed on the floor. The work is half over, will it ever be completed. For some time, I didn't think so.

No Outside Hiring

Until I mentioned to my husband, I was going to hire it out so we could complete it. He was not having any of that. I can do it, he said. I said I know you can but I'm trying to save you the misery of doing it. It is a lot of work. bending, lifting drywall. A big mess. Bathrooms are one of the biggest jobs in houses, also kitchens. That one we did hire out, and I'm very pleased with the results. Our bathroom is smaller than the kitchen. So not as big of a job. That being said, it's still a big job. My part will be the painting when Gary gets that far. Should I be excited. Dang right I should be. I cannot wait for that step. That means it is almost complete. The flooring will go in after painting. I'm glad because I get messy. By the time I get done there is as much paint on me as there is on the walls. In my hair, all over my body. The end result is what matters. Now I have to choose paint colors. Always fun, I love it. Something light and airy. To make the small room look bigger. A shower will be added, of course. Right now, Gary and I are arguing over a door for the shower or a curtain rod. I want a door but will most likely go with a curtain. The shower won't get used much, so a curtain would be cheaper in the long run.

Menards The Everything Store

Menards, here we come. I love shopping for this kind of stuff. It makes my heart sing. Picking stuff out for the house is my favorite thing to do. It is what I spend most money on. Improvements. When we are dead and gone the place will be worth more. Or, if we sell when we are still here, we will get more for it. We have a bedroom left to redo, then the upstairs will be complete. It has been a long journey, and we aren't quite there yet. We will get there though. I have faith in my husband. Even though we have a hot water heater down in our basement that has been there for ten years without being used. Out of sight, out of mind. My mind, that's the only reason Gary has been able to get away with it. because I forget about it. I bring it up occasionally, and then it is promptly forgotten, by Gary, and myself.

We Use It

The bathroom on the other hand gets used. When the grandkids sleep over, we use it. So, I am very much looking forward to it being complete. Plus, it is always a win to have something done and looking nice. Right now, Gary isn't working so it is the best time for him to do it. He just has to muster up the energy to do it. That is the hardest part for him. Once he gets going, he gets a lot accomplished. I am glad I married a handyman.

In closing, I'd like to reiterate I have complete faith my husband will at some point get our bathroom done.
