I'm A Huge Fan
I Got You Babe. My absolute favorite song by them. I loved this couple. They brought me through my childhood. I survived it because of them. Drift away from whatever hell I was in and focus on the music. It took me away from everything. I was devastated when their marriage ended. Too young to understand anything I only knew they were no longer together.
But their music lives on. It lives on today, 2024. Cher is an icon on her own. Sonny is no longer with us, but he is here in spirit. He moved on to become mayor of Palm Springs, California. What an accomplishment. Shows you if you set your mind to it, you can do anything. He is a great example.
A Duo
Cher wouldn’t be Cher without Sonny. She knows this and acknowledges it. She gave a moving eulogy at his funeral. It brought tears to my eyes. Sonny had remarried and so had Cher. They remained friends until the end. Maybe not at first. But eventually they made their way back to each other.
Sonny isn’t Sonny without Cher and Cher isn’t Cher without Sonny. She went from a street kid to a superstar because of Sonny. He was her manager and played a huge role with her success. Cher was no shrinking violet though. She had a voice, maybe not at first. But through the years she stood up for herself. She became a voice on her own. She had her own variety show. She is a strong woman with foresight.
In later years the both of them were on David Letterman and he got them to perform I Got You Babe. It was iconic. I loved it.
Many Happy Memories
I danced to this song with my daughter at her wedding. We used to sing it together when she was young. The song then moved onto my grandkids. I’ve sung it to them also. I cannot sing and have a horrible voice, but they loved it. The song has many memories for me.
I Can't Wait
Seeing Cher in concert was always a dream of mine. The tickets were bought, we had the best seats, and then Covid hit. Her show was canceled a couple times and eventually permanently canceled. It was a huge letdown for me. Dang covid anyway. I was so excited to finally be able to see her and then to have it all fall apart affected me for some time.
Simply The Best
In my book Sonny and Cher will be the best entertainers in my lifetime. Watching them on tv, especially watching Cher as a woman made it seem possible that I could accomplish anything if I set my mind to it. After all she was a street kid before Sonny picked her up and molded her into an icon. She is my role model, my inspiration, and my savior in more ways than one. Cher went on to make movies. Who can forget her unforgettable performance in the movie Mask. There was nothing she couldn’t do.
Now today, in 2024 she remains an active voice. She released a Christmas album in 2023. The woman doesn’t slow down.
She will forever be someone I admire. She is full of determination and grit. She says the hell with everyone and does what she wants. She doesn’t care what people think. She is a strong woman and a positive role model. Alone they weren’t recognized but together they became two of the greatest entertainers ever. Unforgettable and unstoppable. The Sonny and Cher Show. Back in the seventies when variety shows topped tv ratings. Goggle them, go back and revisit. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Long live Cher, and Sonny, may you rest in peace.
