Three or More Kills

Are serial killers born evil? Or are they a product of their home life, their growing up? Many profilers say there are signs in their childhood, bedwetting, abusive parents, a dominant mother, the killing and dissecting of animals. It all leads up to rape in some and taking a life in others.

Ted Bundy

The need for control and power over another human being is huge for a serial killer. Watching the lights dim in their eyes as they strangle them. Premeditation is always a factor; some serial killers stalk their victims for months before doing anything. Others like Ted Bundy for instance go on a rampage and slaughter as many young women as they can. Bundy had a certain type of girl he liked. Long brown hair parted down the middle. Rejection by a former girlfriend is said to be his motivation and anger toward all females. He was a force to be reckoned with, a demon with an attractive face. Or so some would say. His life was taken in an electric chair in a Florida prison in January of 1989. A fitting end to a destructive life. 

They Fascinate as Well as Scare Me

My fascination began with serial killers when I started my career in law enforcement. A tool for the job, I guess. Searching the internet wasn’t hard. There are so many, and they date back to ancient times. Herman Mudgett was the first known serial killer, born in May of 1861, he died in 1896. So, twisted minds have been around for a long time. 

What is Their Mindset

The mind of a serial killer is definitely different from our own. No empathy, no remorse they travel through the world in plain sight. Learning how to blend in is something they practice frequently. Although once their killing spree starts there are those who want to be noticed. They are proud of what they’ve done and want to take credit for it. They cannot help themselves and at times this will be their downfall. They do get caught. There are not many who do not. Somewhere along the way they make a mistake. Oftentimes after being captured, they want to spill their story to the police as if it’s an act to be proud of. To them I believe it is. Many think they are superior to the police and will never get captured. Most think wrong. 

Who do you think of when you think of a serial killer? The infamous Ted Bundy, BTK, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, or Jack the Ripper. Just to name a few. Harold Shipman (who for some reason I’ve never heard of) is the most prolific serial killer of all time with a record number of kills reaching into the 200’s.

New York has been home to 18 serial killers. The most of any state. Not something they should be particularly proud of.

Three Kills

In order to reach serial killer status three kills are required. Who is the youngest serial killer ever noted. His name is Amarjeet Sada. At the tender age of 8 he was labeled a sadist by psychologists. He was born in India. His persona is shrouded in secrecy, he however is well known for killing three infants. His haunting smile left authorities baffled. He was not taken to prison because of his age but sent to a children’s home where he stayed until he was 18. Now in his twenties he roams the world with a new identity. If that doesn’t scare you it should.

Not My Child

There have been tons of research done by experts on serial killers. Are they born that way or are they a product of their growing up? Some say a domineering mother may be the cause. Resulting in a hatred for all women. There can be many different causes. Some people are born just wired wrong. As a small child parents may notice the difference between their child and others. Deny and distract is what they do until they cannot anymore. Deep down inside they know. Admitting it sends a terror unlike any they’ve ever known coursing through their bodies. After all this is their child, how can anything be wrong with them? 

Stay Alert

The next time you are walking the streets of a busy city. Look around, you may be surprised by what you see. They say most of us will encounter or walk across a serial killer in our lifetime without knowing about it.

Keep your wits about you. Snatch and grab are what they do.
