I'm Back

Yesterday was the first day I have run for weeks. If you have been following my story you know we have a new dog in the house, therefore most of my time lately has been dedicated to Ernie-making him feel at home. We took him from a neglected home, so he was (not anymore) a special needs dog.

Ernie

Ernie is his name, he had his teeth all pulled and had a chicken bone removed from his jaw, where it had been stuck for months. He has been with us for a month now, so he is settling in comfortably.

Treadmill Time

My run on the treadmill went well, I ran for a mile and a half. I'm needing to ease myself back into running since I've been abstaining for a while now. If you frequent my blog, you know running on the treadmill isn’t my favorite thing to do. But it sure did feel good yesterday, it gave me a high I haven’t felt in some time now. I hope it continues. Normally by the end of the winter running on the treadmill is not my preference. I somehow struggle through until the weather warms up and I can run outside.

If you are a runner like me and run daily as I did before Ernie came along; not running can bring on feelings of sadness, as well as depression. I haven’t experienced either one because of Ernie. Too busy to notice I wasn’t running, is not a true sentence. There is such a thing as missing the rush of a run.  The cardio work-out, makes my heart stronger. As well as keeping my blood pressure lowered. There are so many” greats" to introducing running into your daily schedule.

Doctor Visits

Doctors' visits have become a thing of the past. Wellness check-ups are the only appointment needed. Building muscle in your body is always a plus. Not one of us wants a body with no muscle. Daily running will put muscle on your frame.

Weight Loss Or Muscle Loss

One thing I have noticed since I haven’t been running is my weight loss. Not really weight loss but muscle loss. They say anyone who runs daily will lose muscle mass faster than a person who doesn’t run. Truth right there. I can tell by looking in the mirror.

Health and fitness have always been a staple in my life. A rule I have lived by, run first and eat second. Fueling your body after a run is necessary. A salad or protein bar usually will suffice. Healthy eating for me has been a lifetime endeavor.

Lastly, let's not deprive ourselves of a mouthwatering snack once in a while. A small bowl of ice cream or a candy bar. Who wants to live without indulging every now and again? No one can be that disciplined, we all should indulge.

It’s a new day and in an hour, I will be back on the treadmill. Instead of dreading it I am looking forward to it. Another mile and a half? Who knows, maybe I’ll try for two.

Who knows, the treadmill and I may become friends!

Sidenote: I did run two, but today I didn't get to run. Life once again got in the way. Watch for an update on Ernie.
