Reading Why I Do It

We All Should Read

Reading is the most fundamental, basic part of our make-up as humans. Whether we realize this or not, we all need to read. It is a fact reading to children when they are small, even before they are born gives them an edge up when they enter the school system. So, while this precious being is inside your body, read to them.

It Stimulates Our Brain

Reading stimulates the brain and makes us think. If we love books, we love life. Opening a book takes us to another place and time. It scares us, makes us smile, and sometimes makes us laugh. I encourage everyone to open up a book and get lost in its pages. Books entertain, takes us away, make us dream. Anything is possible, fact or fiction, magazine, hardcover, softcover, I love them all.

Consistent reading strengthens connections in your brain, improves memory, and concentration, and may help us live a longer life. It reduces stress and can prevent age-related cognitive decline. That is something I worry about since my mother passed away from dementia. It’s always on my mind. Being an avid reader can improve recall, as it exercises our brain. It also puts us in someone else’s shoes. Bringing on a strong sense of empathy for someone other than ourselves.

Dean Koontz

I know I have discussed this in one of my prior posts, but my favorite author is Dean Koontz. He has another book out which is ordered and should arrive shortly.  I get excited when his books are in my mailbox. I spend hours reading, not being able to put the book down. Most times it takes me two days to read one of his books. Then I wait for his next one. Although I am a constant at our local library. Reading other authors gives me variety My genre runs toward books that scare the life out of me. So, anything about murder, suspense, whatever gets my heart going I read.

Romance me?

I can read romance books for a short period of time. But most times I finish a romance book and will not want to pick up another one for months. History does not really interest me, but science and anything animal related I’m all in.

All Books

Thin books, thick books, I crave them all. My love of reading has been passed down to my kids. My girls love to read. My son not so much. I am the kind of person who would rather read a book than watch a tv show. My husband doesn’t understand it. He is not a reader himself. He loves anything math, numbers, that sort of thing. So, we complement one another that way. If he has a question about reading or words he asks me, and if I have a question about math or numbers (math was not my best subject in school), I ask my husband. It works.

It's A Lifetime Thing

Books have been a part of my life for my entire life. I cannot remember a time when I didn’t read. That is why this blog is so important to me. Because, along with reading is writing. I love to write, so incorporating this blog into my life was the easiest thing. Setting it up was a different story but thankfully I had the perfect web designer help me out. Edwin Marie Web Design. Check them out, you will not be disappointed.

I cannot stress enough the importance of reading. So, pick up a book. It takes us away from everything for a while. Getting lost in the pages is my favorite thing to do. It really is a stress reliever and will leave an everlasting impact on your life.

I promise.
