Too Many

Passwords, they are my nemesis. Password for this, password for that. It makes my head spin. Passwords are overrated as far as I’m concerned. If there weren’t so many thieves in this world, we wouldn’t need them. Although having a password for our bank accounts is necessary, there is an importance there. Security needed.

Google password, Twitter password, bank password, a password needed to open your phone. Or a passcode as they call it. Same thing, one more thing to remember in this overcrowded brain of mine. Things weren’t always this difficult. I remember a simpler time, a simpler era. No passwords, no cellphones, nothing like that needed or wanted.

Technology came along and changed everything. For worse or for better, it’s here to stay. There is no getting rid of it. Wishing to go back in time won’t work. We all may as well accept it. Wishing it would go away won’t work.

My Husband

Gary has an Amazon account but never uses it because he cannot remember his password and he gets pissed off and gets off. I use mine way too much. Having prime, it’s nice because I never pay for shipping. Nevertheless, I’ve had to change my password a few times.

I signed into my Twitter account because I put my posts on their site. When I signed in I got an email saying someone from Wausau was trying to use my sign in information. Once again I’m changing my password because some people don’t work for a living. Instead they try to scam off of my accounts.

It would be nice to be able to set up any account using the same password all the time so you only have one password. Easy to remember right? That doesn’t work either because some passwords require capital letters and symbols. The harder you make your password the more difficult it is to get your information. So winding up with many different passwords is what happens. I try to write all mine down in case I have to reference them at some point. Normally I remember to do that but sometimes I forget. Not remembering how to do it becomes a pain in the the butt when you cannot access your account. Go to change my password. They send you an email with a code verifying it's you. You have to send the code back and then figure out a new password. Just thinking about it gives me a headache.

Simple Times

I’d like to return to simpler times. But then I wouldn’t have my blog. We wouldn’t have the internet and we wouldn’t have cable. Perhaps we’d be better off. This data driven world we live in is enough to drive me insane.

Let's Not Complicate Things

The only thing to do is plow ahead, eyes wide open. Try using the same password for different accounts. But then if they get into one they (meaning the scammers) can get into all your accounts. In the end it means you need different passwords to maintain all your accounts. Get yourself a notebook and write them down in an orderly fashion. Mine are scattered on many different pieces of paper, receipts, etc. Maybe someday in the near future I’ll be able to sort through them and categorize them-I won’t hold my breath.

So, the next time you get on Amazon, and it tells you to sign in, take some deep breaths and begin. Forgot your password? Of course, I forgot my password.

And so, it begins.
