Paranoid Dog Mom
Another day at the vet
My husband Gary and I were concerned about Ernie. After his surgery, the vet explained he had an open spot in his mouth from one of his canine teeth. It didn’t close up; she told us to monitor him and see if he showed any signs of infection. This morning he was rubbing his face on the carpet and batting at his face with his paw.
I placed a call to the vet and explained Ernie’s behavior. An appointment for Ernie at 2 pm was the next step. Being on the cautious side myself, I agreed.
All four of us loaded into the van; yes, Sally came along. Ernie is a great car rider. Sally, not so much; it doesn’t help she is 16 years old. Gary was rethinking his decision to bring her along about halfway there. She loves short car rides, but this was over half an hour.
Always The Vet
When we arrived, I took Ernie in for his appointment, and my husband took Sally for a short walk. ( He later told me it didn’t go well, Sally was dragging her feet), her back end is going down, and she cannot walk much anymore.
Ernie did not want to enter the room at the vet's office. But inside, he sat on my lap until the veterinarian opened the door. She brought along an assistant to hold Ernie while she examined him.
Good News Bad News
The excellent news is Ernie’s mouth is not infected. He did have loose sutures, which the vet removed. Ernie did not like that one bit; I liked it even less. The bad news is the hole hasn’t closed up, indicating another surgery.
Poor Ernie, hasn’t this dog suffered enough? If I think positively, the surgery will be a good thing. Ernie will not want to return, but hopefully, this will be the last time. We need to have him there this month (February) on the 16th at 8:15 am. The vet said the surgery would be short.
Only Positive Thoughts
Some good news Ernie has his first grooming on the 8th. Next week! I’m excited to see his looks, all bathed and prettied up. He is a very handsome dog.
As of now, we are waiting for the 16th. It can’t come soon enough. I’m super excited to be at the end of this chapter, finally.
Side note: Ernie’s actual age is 12. He was born in 2010. His birthday is November 15th. He will be 13. Math is not my strong suit, but I do have fingers.
Only positive thoughts for Ernie allowed.
