Pretty Kitty
Gary has a new obsession: she weighs barely anything and is black and white, and lives under our deck. Her name is Sam, according to my husband. He feeds her daily, actually twice a day. He heats milk up in the microwave for her. (A little overboard) but hey, if that’s what floats his boat. More power to him. Unknown actually if the kitten is male or female. He or she has grown since he first started feeding her a week ago. She is still little though. Gary says God brought her to him because Sally (his 17-year-old Jack Russell) won’t be with us much longer. This is what he believes. It gives him something to do. He feeds her twice a day. Morning and night. She grows like a weed. As of right now our rescue Ernie knows she is under the deck and tries to get to her. She sits and meows so loudly. At first, he couldn’t hear her because she was so quiet, but now she’s loud and getting louder. So Ernie has detected her. He was outside trying all sorts of ways to get under the deck and get her. It wouldn’t be good, even though Ernie has no teeth. Gary says he could crush her with his jaws. I told him I didn’t think his jaws were strong enough. But, who knows. I don’t want to find out. Gary needs to get a live trap and trap her. We need to take her to a shelter; someone would adopt her. She’s so cute. Black and white and bossy, Gary says.
How Does This Happen
I’m not quite sure how this happens to us all the time with these animals. But it does. Last year there was a kitten also. This one was a little bit older, we saw her a couple times and were afraid she wouldn’t make it through the winter, so we made an elaborate house for her with straw, out of our doghouse. Put food out all winter and never saw her again. Cats, they are all over this area and many of them are feral. Yet you cannot let them starve, can you? So, we help out when we can.
A Shelter
Gary keeps asking me what they will do with her at the shelter. I told him someone would adopt her. She’s too cute not to be adopted. I’m not sure how long she would have to stay there. She needs to be socialized. She is very skittish. If there is any movement at all, she’s out in a quick hurry. It would be the best thing for her. Give her to a good home.
Not Here
Our home right now is not a good home for her with Ernie here. She needs to be around other cats or in a home with no other animals. A home with a dog that likes cats would work also. There are so many possibilities for her. She deserves a good home after possibly being dumped off at our house. Or born in the wild. Neither one is good. So, I don’t want to think about them. People are horrible with animals, and some have no conscience at all.
For now, we will feed Sam (Gary will) anyway. Keep her fat and happy until she settles somewhere else.
When you get an animal it’s for life. Their life. Not a few months, or even a few years. Don’t tie them up outside. Don’t leave them in a kennel 24/7.
If you can’t be kind to an animal, you shouldn’t have one.
