High Rollers

Is there such a thing? We had a meeting of the minds last night at our local library. There are plans to build a new library. Actually they are adding on to the existing library, it is a historical place. At 123 years of age it has withstood the times.  It is not handicap accessible, nor are the front steps made for older people or young children. The windows need replacing, and let’s face it the entire place is cramped and small. Back in 1901 when it was built I’m sure it was a place to be proud of. Not that I am not proud of it now. The library is my favorite place to be besides home and beside my kids and grandkids.

Help Out Please

Renovations do not come cheap. So, last night we had a meeting about how to do fundraising. What needs to happen. What my small part will be in the big picture. I’m willing to help anyway I can. My strong belief is that if kids are read to at an early age, they excel. I’m talking about when the child is still in mom's belly, so they have a head start to their life. Reading, writing, and books are a fundamental basic step kids need. In order to grow, prosper and be successful in life they need to know how to read.

Read and Read Some More

Learning their ABC’s before they get to school helps enormously. Read, read, and read some more to your kids. When they get old enough, have them read to you. Nothing is more important. Having had three kids myself, my two girls still read to this day. My son, not so much. But one can’t have everything can they? He does know how to read, which is the important thing.

The Need to Read

I cannot imagine going through life without knowing how to read. How do you know what comes in the mail? Is this addressed to you or someone else? How would you know if you can’t read? It is mind boggling to me. It is real and out there because I myself know people who do not know how to read. It is as foreign to me as if I’d dropped myself off onto another planet and they spoke a language I didn’t understand. It would be confusion, chaos, and disorder.

Let's Go

Back to the library. I’ve seen drawings of the new building, and they look amazing. Plans are drawn out, people are drawn in. It is a collective effort. We all need to help out to reach our goal. Each one of us plays a pivotal role in getting this accomplished. We listened to the library director as she explained why we need a new library. More room, rooms for meetings, rooms for people to sit if they’d like. More room for the kids for story time. Plus, plus, plus all the way around. This needs to happen and the wheels are in motion. We all push forward, grants will be given, donations will start flowing in. As a town we will all come together to make this happen.

It’s a magical thing the way people gravitate toward one another for a better cause. No egos, just townsfolk working shoulder to shoulder, reaching out a hand. This is how we accomplish what at first glance looks to be formidable. We climb the mountain together as one.

I, for one, cannot wait until the new library is complete. It will be my second home, there isn’t a doubt in my mind.

For now I’ll take the next step with everyone else. Pitch in, help out, keep in mind the end goal. A beautiful library for all to enjoy.

Let’s go Stanley, Wisconsin.
