Books

What can I say about books?  They are my life, my passion, and one of my reasons for living.  I am a lover of books.

Surround Yourself with Books

Books have been a part of my life since I was a child. It didn’t matter what my home life was like; I’d lose myself for hours inside the pages of a book.  It leads me to places I will never see or experience the beauty of it widens my vocabulary, and it heightens my ability to cope in today's world.  I am a lover of books, hardcover, softcover, big, small, history, fiction, I read them all.

My Three Books

These three books come from my imagination; each has an everlasting memory.

Ethan

Boy on a cover
My first self-published book

My middle grandson Ethan is now almost thirteen years old.  When he was around three or four years old, I began making up stories about a little boy named Josiah. Whenever I would babysit or visit; he would say, grandma, can you tell me a story about Josiah.

My storytelling went on for many years; as Ethan grew up, I realized there would come a time he no longer wanted to hear about Josiah.

Sadly, the time came when Ethan turned eleven.   Around this time a thought popped into my head.  I would bring Josiah to life in book form.

It was my first Children’s book; I'm incredibly proud of this book.  It is a story about a little boy who loves his mama.  My Name Is Josiah is the title.

I had fifteen minutes of fame when an anchorwoman interviewed me at one of our television stations.  It is a memory I will never forget.  I have the interview on a disc so Ethan can pop it in and watch it when he wishes.   I keep the disc in the safe beside his book.  Being a lover of books, this is one of my most cherished memories.

Every year I write a note for Ethan on a book page.  When he reaches adulthood, he marries and has children of his own he can read the book to them.

Elliot’s Turn

A little boy
I published this book

Elliot was seven when I wrote his book for him.  He is now an eight-year-old who is all boy.  He loves to wrestle; he loves his family, and he thinks toots are funny.

Along came the book Squishy Squashy Benny Mossy.  It is a book about a little boy Benny who toots.  He apologizes throughout the book for his behavior.  I had my grandson read it for the first time with no illustrations.  He giggled, reading it; it warmed my heart to see him read and laugh.

I didn’t go through a self-publisher with Elliot’s book.  A high school student did the illustrating, and I published the book myself, going through a printing company in a nearby city.

I mailed Elliot his copy of the book and placed my copy for him in the safe.

I will write down memories for him to read inside the book’s pages.  A memory of his grandma he can pass on to his children.

Maliki’s Next

Illustrations
It isn’t easy being Maliki, coming soon

My grandson Maliki is nineteen years old.  The name of his book is It’s Not Easy Being Maliki.  It is a book about a young boy who is constantly nagged during the day by his mother. She assures him he is still loved when the lights go out as he gets ready for bed.

It is currently in the illustration stage at the high school.  I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

Maliki's book will be placed in the safe along with Ethan and Elliot's and given to Maliki at the appropriate time, with messages from his grandmother.

A Grandmothers Wish

From one generation to the next a book is a legacy that will stand powerful for years to come.  Books, God’s greatest gift to us all.

It is my sincerest wish; my grandsons remember me as someone who loved to read and write and who loved them beyond words.
