I Love Summer

It’s time for flowers and sunshine. Green grass and running. It’s summertime. My favorite time of the year. It all starts with flower shopping. My girls and I load up in a truck and hit the flower shops. It’s fun, it’s crazy, it’s exciting. Before I know it it’s over. But then planting comes next. I have all the pots and spots I need flowers. Mulch was bought so some landscaping will be done. Being outside in the sunshine brightens my mood. Makes me happy. Digging in the dirt and placing a flower in the ground brings me joy. It lights up my face and is intensely satisfying. Roses are my favorites. I can grow them where we live. I was given one for a gift this month and the other one I bought. They are already blooming and will continue to bloom all summer. That is what I love about roses. Other perennials I’ve bought bloom for a couple weeks and are done for the summer. Not my roses. They continue to bloom. The many different colors make them unique. They are thorny, but so am I sometimes. Getting up first thing in the morning and looking at them is what I love to do.

Neighborly Love

A neighbor of mine had some Hosta's she wants to get rid of and she offered them to me. I’ll take them and I already have a place for them along the side of our garage. That way I don’t have to weed eat. It’s the perfect spot for them. So, I am excited. I’m going over tomorrow morning to pick them up. She lives just down the road. Do you know how much money she is saving me because I asked her if she wanted any money for them and she said no. Plants aren’t cheap. I will be forever in her debt.

As of right now the Hosta's are the only thing I have left to plant. Unless you count my green beans, peppers, and cucumbers. Those I have not planted yet. Sometimes in May it freezes. I am hoping it bypasses us this year because my tomatoes are already in the ground looking healthy. I’d have to cover them. I’ll have to keep an eye out for freeze advisories.

Nothing Better

Wisconsin summers. There is nothing better. They don’t last long enough. Even though the light stretches out past nine pm. The days fly by too fast. We have baseball games to go to, weddings, and running races. I signed up for a six-mile race in June. When I ran it last year, I swore I’d never run it again. It was so hot so early in the morning. But here I am once again preparing for it. Another year, another six-mile race. I’m thankful I can still run. New shoes are something I need. Brooks is my go-to shoe. Perfect for me. I’ve been running in them for years.

Wherever you live, if you're like me you love this time of year. Everything is green. Anything seems possible. Get out and enjoy the sunny skies. Go for a walk, take a drive. Go sit at the park and watch the geese. They have babies now. Just do something. Get out of the house.

Better yet go buy some flowers and plant them.

Enjoy the weather before it’s gone.

Happy summer everyone!
