Enjoy
Maybe it’s time to sit back and enjoy the little things life has to offer. A beautiful sunny day, the first sign of green in springtime. The beautiful color of the trees in the fall, a snapping turtle discovered on a walk, three deer standing in the trees as you walk by. Skittish, they all run when they see you. Ernie and I out for his daily walk. You can either be a nervous ball of energy, constantly watching for danger, another dog, a school bus, people, his triggers, or you can enjoy the walk. Enjoying the walk seems sensible-little steps. Ernie sniffs to his heart's content. He is a dog after all.
The Little Things
The little things, stop and take a look around before you leave this earth. Learn how to enjoy just being still. Take in the surroundings. Sit and enjoy nature's beauty. Sunsets, make the most of them. A fire engine red sun setting sky. Drink it in, soak up the night air. Sit around a fire pit with family or friends. Roasting marshmallows, making s’mores. Chatting, enjoying one another’s company.
Take A Walk
Take a walk by yourself. Preferably out in the country-head down a gravel road. Stop and look at the creek, a bubbling brook leading off into nowhere. Tree branches bending over the water as far as you can see.
Farms with cows, horses, chickens and goats. Hobby farms, my dream but I’ll have to look from afar. It isn’t in my life plan. But that’s ok I have a friend who lives on one so I can visit.
Call someone you love and talk for an hour. It’s nice to hear a friend's voice. Conversation carries on bringing with it a sense of peace and tranquility.
Go to the library and pick up some books. Read and then read some more. The day passes by and soon it’s dark. A great book monopolizes time like nothing else-in a good way.
Sit out on the patio if you have one. Enjoy the sun, and the peace and quiet. Marvel at an ant carrying something on its back that weighs twice as much as it does. Be in awe of its determination. Just be.
Be Glad You Wake Up Every Morning
Enjoy the simple pleasure of waking up in the morning. A cup of coffee in hand to kick start the day. A soft breeze along with the smell of lilac drifts past as you open the door, outside an eagle soar landing at the top of a nearby tree. There is nothing more majestic nor dangerous.
Not every day has to be a rat race. Slow down, take a time out. Do some yoga. Or just sit and breathe. Stop and smell the roses.
If we all took time out to enjoy the little things in life the big things wouldn’t be so big. Nor would they matter so much. Our hearts would be filled with the little things. No room for what in the long run no one cares about anyway.
Sit outside, recognize how lucky you are. Life is a beautiful and glorious thing. Another day God allowed you to open your eyes. Another day to be cherished. Be glad you can walk, talk, and move your limbs. Climb a tree, mow the lawn, water the flowers.
Tell Someone You Love Them
Tell someone you love them. Text someone you haven’t spoken to for ages and ask how they are. Rescue a dog or save a cat. Plant a tree. It’s the little things we do daily that make a difference.
Go visit a relative or friend who lives in a nursing home. Sit and hold their hand. No talking is necessary, sometimes just being there is enough.
Dare to be different. Do not go with the flow. Make each day your own. Run in the rain. Clean house if that’s what gives you pleasure. Do not care what everyone else is doing. Be your own person. Have a heart full of love not hatred. Surround yourself with family. Find that inner peace and keep it close.
Feed and water your chickens if that’s what makes you happy. Tammy, shout out to my sister. Chickens make her happy, who is anyone to tell her differently? It’s her thing, she loves it that’s all that matters in this crazy ride we call life.
Little things make up who you are. Teach yourself sign language. Learn how to play the guitar, get up every morning and look up Wordle. It challenges you to use your brain and guess. Playing it daily is good for what aches inside you.
Smile a lot because after you’re gone it’s too late. Pick a flower and give it to the next person you see.
It’s the little things…….
Side Note: While out walking today a massive dog snuck up on us. It could have gone south in a hurry, as soon after he arrived another big dog joined him. I managed to scoop Ernie up, no easy task as the big dogs were right on his tail. Luckily the owner came out and called her dogs off. So, I learned while enjoying the little things I still need to be aware of my surroundings. Isn't there a leash law? Let me answer that. Yes, there is.
