Xmas
Is it really time for Christmas shopping once again? It seems so because I’ve already started. Two items bought I no longer have to worry about. One for each grandchild. Normally I’ll get them five presents each along with a Christmas stocking. Love doing their stockings. I do them separately and concentrate on each boy so I can personalize them. I love stockings.
My Favorite Season
Christmas time is my favorite time of the year. Who doesn’t like Christmas? My husband Gary isn’t a big fan. He says it’s too commercialized. Everyone should just all get together with no gifts, just spend time with one another. I love watching my grandkids open their gifts. There is nothing more exciting for me. The look on their faces when they see what they got. It’s priceless.
Myself, I could care less if I get anything for Christmas. My joy comes from others opening gifts.
All the Food
A Christmas dinner is a tradition. Has to be ham, mashed potatoes and gravy. Stuffing is always a must. Some kind of vegetable, and cranberries. Dessert is pies. Yum, I love pie. Pumpkin, strawberry cheesecake, blueberry. Pies are the best. We all sit around the table talking, laughing, enjoying each other's company. Family, there is nothing better.
Games and Drinks
Games come into play also, we all played bingo one year and had the best time. Left, Right, center was a card game we brought into play one Christmas.
The drinks run freely also; grasshoppers are a favorite. Smiles grow wider, laughs get louder. It’s all in good fun.
We normally have Christmas at my daughter's house. My daughter's husband's parents join us as well. Everyone knows everyone, hugs are frequent, as well as jokes at someone else’s expense. Like I said earlier, it’s all in good fun. Stories are told, some tame, some wild, as the day progresses the laughs get louder, and the jokes get raunchier.
Christmas Trees
The Christmas tree is also a tradition. We have one at our house even though we do not have Christmas there. If it were up to Gary, we wouldn’t have a tree. I used to love real trees, but Gary put a kibosh to that. Saying they were a fire hazard. So now we have a fake one. It’s still beautiful. I wind up decorating it myself. Gary will help me with the star at the top, and actually putting the tree together. It comes in three pieces. I have handmade ornaments on the tree from long ago. Made by my kids. I love trees with meaning. My grandkids' faces are on ornaments. After the tree is done, I just love to turn the lights on and sit by it. It’s so pretty. Every morning if I’m up before it’s light outside, I’ll turn the lights on and enjoy the ambience.
It seems as if Christmas Day goes by so fast, gifts are open, dinner has been served. The kids are tired. It’s time to go. Where has the day gone? Another Christmas over and done with. Before we turn around Christmas will be right around the corner again. It’s a magical time. A time for family, food, and sledding.
Last but not least let’s not forget the Christmas shows on tv. Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, Frosty the snowman, The Christmas story. A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Christmas time, a time for miracles and anything is possible.
Or as my husband would say, bah humbug.
