What Now?

I’m so worried about Ernie I cannot sleep. He had a seizure today. We are not sure why, and of course it’s Sunday so the vet isn’t open. I did call the emergency number from the vet we took Ernie to. I spoke to a woman and told her what happened. She said normally if they only have one seizure, we tell you to monitor them. If it happens again within 24 hours he should be seen. She continued on to tell me it was $200 for a visit and if they took blood, it would be another $400. I’m not sure if she thought that would factor into our bringing him in or if she was just being helpful. Since Ernie only had one seizure, we will monitor him. If it was just me, I’d have taken him in to emergency after his seizure. My husband, the voice of reason, talked me down. I’m a worrywart.

He Sleeps

Ernie is sleeping right now. It’s almost eleven pm. I of course am wide awake and worrying. Is it something we fed him, we have been trying different soft foods and I know dogs don’t like change. We need to stick to one food.

There is always the possibility he got into something when we walk. I haven’t noticed or seen him eating anything while walking. A thousand different scenarios go through my mind and none of them are good.

Over Medicated?

My husband and I thought maybe he was over medicated. He is on a thyroid pill. They upped his dose. But the emergency vet I spoke to didn’t seem to think that was the cause of it.

What Did He Do?

I can’t help but think it all started after we took him to the groomer. It was a traumatic experience for us all. The groomer had Ernie to himself for 40 minutes. A lot can happen in that time. It’s all speculation but it whirls through my mind on a never-ending loop.

8 am tomorrow I will be calling the vet to see what she suggests. Monitoring Ernie or bringing him in. We will find out tomorrow. It’s doubtful I will get any sleep tonight. Gary is snoring beside me.

Some of us can sleep through anything and others stay up all night worrying.

So, if everyone can send prayers for Ernie it would be much appreciated.

May we see a better tomorrow!

Side note: is anyone else’s dog’s pee bright yellow? I remember telling my husband about his urine shortly after we got him. I hope he doesn’t have liver trouble. Good Lord.
