Dogs, Oh My
I was running in the country yesterday, and noticed someone built a new house west of us. I was introduced to their four dogs while running. Not the way I would have preferred meeting them. Noticing they were loose I tried being quiet while running by but the Lab/Great Dane mix saw me and trotted out to the road. Not knowing the dog I stopped and stood still while he sniffed me. Along came another dog, a pitbull mix. He was followed by another dog and then another dog. A total of four dogs were circling me. I’m a huge dog lover but this gave me pause. “I kept thinking” what if it were someone running who was not a fan of dogs. Something horrible could have happened. The lady who was at the house was babysitting her daughter's dogs. So they weren’t even hers. She said she told her daughter the dogs should have their collars on. There wasn’t a collar on any of the dogs. Still circling me and jumping on me, as well as slobbering all over me the dogs wouldn’t leave me alone. The poor lady was calling them and calling them, and they were ignoring her. She had no control over any of the dogs. I started walking up the driveway with the dogs, they all followed me because I’m the new and interesting smelling person. The lady kept apologizing to me, I told her it was fine. I actually had to enter the house to get the dogs inside otherwise if I turned to go they would follow me. We finally had the dogs safely inside the house so I turned around and continued on with my run. Hearing the ladies' voice in my head as I’m running down their driveway. Sorry about that, she said.
Not Again
It was a surreal experience; one I do not hope to repeat. She told me when I first stopped, “don’t worry they wouldn’t hurt you.” So, she thinks but you can never be certain how a dog will react in any given situation. It could have gone south in a quick hurry if one of the dogs had sensed something about me, they didn’t like. I do not think I’d have stood a chance because they were all massive dogs. So, good thing I’m a dog lover. I’m sure they’d sensed that. That being said I wanted to tell her she was taking a huge chance with having four huge dogs loose in the yard. Of course, I didn’t say anything, but I am hoping she learned from this experience, and it won’t happen again.
Country Or Town
The next day deciding the country wasn’t a good choice for me I headed into town. I was heading home when I turned down a street with a woman outside speaking to someone in a vehicle. Standing next to her was a giant pitbull/mix. A beautiful dog ( who knew there were so many in town.) He of course spotted me and since he was loose decided to run after me. I immediately stopped once again. She finally saw me and called her dog back. He listened to her and turned around and headed back her way. What is it with all the loose dogs? I know I’ve spoken about this before but there is a leash law for a reason. Someone is going to get hurt and then it is too late, and you have a dog being put down. Dang people anyway. Is it that hard to put your dog on a leash when you have him or her outside?
Loose Dogs
Today I once again ran in the country because what’s the difference between loose dogs in the country or loose dogs' uptown. One and the same. I made it around both blocks without seeing one loose dog. Today was my lucky day. Running in the country is my favorite, heading east and then west gives me about a 5 ½ mile run. It’s a beautiful run especially now with the trees turning colors. Now I just have to watch out for bear also. Always something. I’ve had deer jump out in front of me. A skunk one time, but thankfully never a bear.
One foot in front of the other. Let’s go!
Sidenote: She didn't learn her lesson. When I ran the other day all four ran out at me once again. A guy was with her this time though, they listened to him.
