Foods We Love

We all love to eat, do we not? If life were only that simple where we could eat whatever our heart desires and not gain weight. Wouldn’t that be superb?

Oh My

Donuts, ice cream, chocolate, fried foods. These are the foods I try to stay away from. Eating healthy is something I do on a daily basis. I do fall off the wagon from time to time. But on the norm, I fill my face with healthy foods.

What is the correct way to eat? Experts say do not eat after 6 pm. I believe this stems from the fact people are most inactive after that time. Binge watching tv or reading.

Fasting Is Not for Me

What about fasting? Is this something that sounds appealing? Not to me it doesn’t.  I get jittery if I don’t eat. Not having anything to eat for 24 hours sounds like torture. It is something I have never tried (except for prepping for a colonoscopy) and most likely will never try. I like to eat.

Rabbit Food

Salads are a big go to in my diet. I love seafood salads, chicken salads, cobb salads, or making my own salad. I put pickles in my salads. Dill. They add zing, also blueberries are a favorite, and apples on occasion. Boiled eggs are a must and every so often I will add kidney beans. I also sprinkle chia seeds to top it off.

Carnivore

My husband loves meat, I do too. So, we incorporate it into most meals. Hamburger is his favorite. We go through a lot of it. No more chopped hamburger from the store for us. We went to a local farmer who had it on hand. Much healthier and it tastes great with not a lot of fat. Since pasta doesn't agree with Garys stomach we eat rice. That doesn’t seem to bother him. Most meals will be a goulash type dish with whatever I can find in the fridge. I love sweet potatoes and veggies, add the rice with seasoning, fry up the hamburger and mix it together. It tastes just right.

Chicken is a meat we have now and then. Turkey almost never, and pork we try to stay away from. I do love pork steak and used to eat it a lot. Not so much now but every once in a while, I will get a craving for it. Gary loves to grill out, and he is good at it. Summertime is the grilling season, and we take advantage of it.

Love Me Some Chips

I have a weakness for potato chips and try to stay away from them. I’m not always successful, Sour Cream and Onion, Dill Pickle, Cheddar and Sour Cream, Cheetos, you name it I'll eat it. Doritos are a favorite too. If I’m reading a book, I can eat an entire bag in one sitting. I've done it before and I’m sure I’ll do it again. Again, this is the reason I do not have chips in our house. I have a hard time staying away from them. If I know they are in the pantry, I’ll go looking for them.

Who Doesn't Love Chocolate

Chocolate I can stay away from although I do love it. Reese's peanut Butter cups are my go-to. A Hershey bar works just as well though. Really any kind of candy as long as it's chocolate I’ll eat it. Chocolate is not good for my body. Too much sugar. Sugar is the enemy. It turns into fat in our bodies faster than anything else. I wish it wasn’t so, but unfortunately it is. Because sugar is in donuts, ice cream, cakes, well almost everything we all would like to shove in our faces but do not.

As We Age

Fried foods we try to stay away from in our house. My husband's stomach is touchy, although he eats McDonalds and says he feels best after consuming one of their meals. I have to give him credit though it is February, and he has only eaten there one time. Before, it was every Friday night. Now he tries to avoid going there. The things we do to stay healthy. Especially as we age.

We have a Kwik Trip in town that has the best donuts, along with other desserts that are hard to not put in a cart when we go in for butter, bread, milk, and bananas. Go there after eating with a full stomach. Much easier to resist the tasty treats located throughout the store.

Be Sensible

Exercise, eating right, along with a less stressful lifestyle is what we need. Stress can reduce our quality of life if we let it. I worry so my stress level is most likely higher. I try not to worry about things I have no control over, but it doesn’t always work. Worrying leads to lack of good sleep, which we also need. The exercise I get since I’m on the treadmill every day. Eating right is something I think I have pretty good control over. I slip on occasion, who doesn’t? I’m far from perfect and we only go through life once so indulging every once in a while, seems alright.

So, I say eat the chips, have a bit of chocolate, and have a donut. (Maybe share the last with your better half)

Just don’t do it every day.
