We Love to Laugh
We all love to laugh. After all, what would life be without a few giggles now and then? There is a time and place for everything. While seated at a funeral the last thing we need to be doing is laughing. Unless someone is regaling us with a funny story about the dearly departed.
Comedians make us laugh. Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Chelsea Handler to name a few. The world is a better place with funny people.
What a drab place it would be if there were no laughter. The world would be a dark unfriendly place.
There is nothing like a one liner. A zing. I believe Rodney Dangerfield delivered plenty of those. He was a master one liner.
Sitcoms
My husband is a huge Seinfeld fan. He said they couldn’t have picked out a better cast of characters if they tried. There is no one better than Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer. Sidekicks include Newmann, the Soup Nazi, George and Jerry’s parents. Seinfeld is one of the best sitcoms ever created. Friends is another. Another great cast of characters. For those of us who are older, All in the Family comes to mind. One of the first funny sitcoms in my memory. It was a classic. Paving the way for future comedic sitcoms. Archie Bunker was the best. Racist as he was, I don't remember anyone being offended by him. Much simpler times back then. I am not sure the sitcom would stand on its own in today's society. Carol O’Connor was a master at his trade. He left us too soon as all the great ones do.
They Left Us Too Soon
Chris Farley, John Belushi, John Candy. All great comedians and all left this earth too soon. Each in their own way left an imprint on our hearts along with a smile on all our faces.
Families
Every family has their own comedian. Whether it’s a favorite uncle, a grandpa, brother, sister, aunt, or father. In my family it was my uncle Allen. Uncle Al the kiddie's pal. He brought a smile to all our faces when he visited. Growing up we didn’t receive visitors often so when he showed up on our doorstep the party started.
Not Funny
My husband says my sense of humor is suspect at times. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Seinfeld and Friends. What I do not care for are comedic movies that are just dumb. That’s the only way I know how to describe them. They insult my intelligence. Not only movies but also sitcoms. The canned laughter, the scripted lines. Are sitcoms on tv anymore? When I turn on the television the only thing I see are reality shows. Not a big fan.
My husband Gary and I DVR a lot of the tv we watch. Most of it is off the ID channel. We are big fans.
We occasionally record and watch Comedians. After a few minutes of viewing we can tell if we want to hit the delete button or keep watching. Netflix has their share and so does HBO. We love watching a guy or woman who makes us laugh. Some of them are so raunchy we don’t find it funny.
Saturday Nights
Saturday night live is another show we can watch in spurts. Some of the skits are hilarious and some we fast forward through. One segment we both love is weekend update with Colin Jost and Michael Che. We are older now so we believe the best Saturday Night Live episodes are the ones starring Eddy Murphy, Dan Akroid, Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, I could go on and on.
We are all on this carnival ride through life for a short span. Poof, it’s our time to go.
Why not laugh along the way.
