I Do Not
Do you sleep all night without waking? I cannot remember the last time I did. I always wake up at least once during the night. Getting up to go use the bathroom happens now with me. It never used to but getting old sucks. Drinking too much water during the day makes getting up at night a real possibility. Can you drink too much water? I am a big yes person when it comes to water. I run, so drinking water to replenish my body is something I do. My husband Gary struggles to drink any water. At times I can get tired of drinking it, but it’s essential and necessary to keep your body going.
Yes, King Size
What kind of bed are you sleeping in? We have a king size bed at our house. We have one dog (Ernie) who sleeps with us. Our other dog (Sally) is 17 now and prefers her kennel with the door open to our bed. It’s hard for her, I’d say almost an impossibility for her to get on our bed. We have steps but her back end isn’t good so she wouldn’t be able to navigate them. She loves her dog bed in the kennel and as long as the door is open so she can get in and out she’s fine.
No New Mattress
Gary says we need a new mattress on the bed. I say we don’t. I sleep comfortably on this mattress we currently have. Gary is a napper; he sleeps before we go to bed. So, I am not sure if it’s the mattress that is the problem. He wakes up at night and stays awake for two to sometimes three hours. He is in the bathroom on Facebook or Marketplace. I sleep soundly through his getting out of bed. Waking up occasionally is what I do. Sometimes I’ll just wake up, roll over and fall back to sleep. That’s the norm. My husband falls asleep in five seconds when we first go to bed. It takes me longer to fall sleep. If my mind is busy, I cannot fall asleep and will toss and turn. I’ve done this before and looked at the clock and it’s almost 3 am. Most of the night is over and I have yet to fall asleep. I hate when that happens. That is not the norm for me though. Most times even if I get up to use the bathroom when I crawl back into bed, I can fall asleep.
Trio
Gary and I went from a queen bed to a king, and I couldn’t believe the difference. The king has so much more room it’s unbelievable. Plenty of room for a dog who weighs in at 17 pounds. Ernie is a deep sleeper and does not like to be disturbed when he’s in bed. Who can blame him?
Gary often falls asleep at four or five am after he’s been up for most of the night. His sleep is sporadic, and he dreams a lot.
A Good Pillow
I believe a good night's sleep also involves the pillow you use. My husband's pillow is flat. He folds it in half and sleeps with it like that. I need a plumper pillow. I cannot sleep on one that’s too high or one that’s not soft. Who wants a hard pillow? I will take my pillow when we spend the night away from home. Because you never know what you get when you spend the night elsewhere. I’m always threatening Gary that I will toss his pillow and get him a new one. He isn’t amused. To each his own. Experts say we should all sleep on a medium firm mattress because you get the best spinal alignment along with a good quality sleep. Everyone is different though so go check out the mattress before you buy. Lay down on it and test it out. Is it too hard, too soft or just right? Buying the right one is super important because you spend a lot of time in it. Don’t go cheap because you can. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Mattresses are one of those things.
Is it old age or do Gary and I just need a new mattress?
Never forget the waterbed. Good lord the thought of it makes me seasick.
Good night, everyone.
