IT's Hard for Me to Believe
My sister Tammy and I are flying to Hawaii. I cannot really believe it because I am 63 years old and have never had a planned vacation. We both are so excited about it. We have our place booked and now just have to get the plane tickets.
The entire thing makes me nervous, and excited. I’d say more excited than nervous. Booking a place at an airbnb is something I’ve never done before. I’ve heard of people getting ripped off by scammers who place fake Airbnb’s on the internet. So booking one was kind of surreal for me.

What do we bring along? We only want to bring a carry-on bag on the airplane. We don't want any extra luggage that has a chance of getting lost somewhere along the way. I haven’t flown for so long so the whole experience of being in an airport will be weird. Where we live, I don’t believe we can get a direct flight to Hawaii so will have to fly one airplane, then get on another for the final distance. Since I’m not a big fan of flying, this part of the trip will be my least favorite. My sister isn’t a fan either so we will have to have a drink before we get on the airplane to settle our nerves. Once we are boarded there is no going back. We are in the airplane and the pilot has our lives in his hands. That’s the part that worries me. Being kind of a control freak myself I do not like to relinquish that control to anyone else. That’s exactly what you do when you fly. Enough about that now before I talk myself out of going.
It's Happening
The Airbnb we booked looks spacious, with a lot of windows and light. I really cannot wait to see the beauty as well as the culture of Hawaii. I'm positive it is way more laid back there than it is here. Going on hikes, laying on the beach, just relaxing. A trip to go visit a volcano is something that will most likely happen. Tammy and I both think that would be incredible to see. Snorkeling, maybe. We both love the ocean, but I think our favorite part will be on the beach lounging.
Sandy beaches, water as far as you can see. It doesn’t get any better does it? It sounds like the most relaxing thing ever. I’ve heard the people who live there are friendly and welcoming to tourists. I’m looking forward to meeting some of them. Mostly I’m looking forward to relaxing. Something that never happens at home. A vacation, it’s truly happening, and I have to pinch myself to believe it. This is the kind of thing I never do. But, I say with great joy I’m doing it. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and most likely Tammy too. It will never happen again. So, we will make the most of it. Experience Hawaiian culture and soak up the sun.
Never Say Never
Never say never to anything in life. For me, I didn’t think I’d ever get to Hawaii, so I lived vicariously through my daughters who have both been there. Now Tammy and I are going, it’s happening. It’s incredible, amazing, unimaginable, unthinkable, and unbelievable.
Wish us a great time. Our phones will be off so don’t try and get a hold of us.
We will be in paradise. Aloha.
