Green Bay Packers
How many Packer fans are out there? I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any stadium that fills so quickly, (in any other state) as Lambeau Field does for a Green Bay Packer football game. Packer fans are loyal and steadfast. They do not get up and leave a game early, who knows what can happen. They stay until the bitter end. Losing or winning we all back the Pack.
Brett Favre
My most vivid memories of the Packers are when Brett Favre started at quarterback. He and coach Mike Holmgren were an unbeatable duo. I remember Bret screwing up a play then running over to Holmgren to say who knows what. Only those two know. They were fun to watch, and I sat on pins and needles until the game was over and we won. Say what you want to about Bret Favre, he was a godsend to the Green Bay team when they needed him. Reggie White was another great leader when he played for the Pack. Always the cheerleader he rose to the occasion plenty of times. He kept them all in check and the other players looked toward him for his leadership abilities.
Lambeau Field
I’ve watched the Green Bay Packers play on tv more times than I can count. But going to Lambeau Field, in Green Bay and actually sitting in the stadium is a whole other experience. The first time I went it was with my daughter. I got goosebumps when we entered the stadium. It was a surreal, pivotal moment in my life I will always remember. The game was in December, it was cold. Snowsuits, mittens, hats, and boots. The cold couldn’t sway the excitement of actually being at the game. Seeing the players in person, they look bigger on tv. I loved it so much I went three more times. That may not seem like a lot to many of you out there. A lot of people have season tickets. But for me each game is a memory I can bring back to life when I close my eyes. Each game was different, we lost two and won two. Win or lose there is nothing like the energy in the stadium. Packer fans are one of a kind. The December game we went to I remember seeing two guys with no shirts on. It was a cold bitter day, but they seemed to be unbothered by the cold like the rest of us. True Packer fans, or maybe slightly crazy Packer fans. Either way, the excitement in the air was palpable.
Nobody Better
Brett Favre was in the stadium, what more could we ask for. He was the man we all came to watch. A rough and tumble quarterback, his love for the game is legendary. His thirst and knowledge of the game is unlike anyone I’ve seen play before or after him. He loved the game. His father passed away from a heart attack and the next day he played against the Oakland Raiders and had one of the most iconic performances of his career. His dad would have wanted it that way.
Coach Holmgren
The saddest day of my life was when coach Holmgren left the Packers and went to coach for another team. I was angry with him for abandoning us all. He was by far my favorite coach. But, as they say, life goes on and so did the Pack. They went through a few coaches before settling with Mike McCarthy.
Nothing Lasts Forever
Soon Brett Favre was making his own exit. Enter Aaron Rodgers, he played under Brett Favre and learned a lot from him. He soon turned himself into the new quarterback everyone wanted to watch. Bret Favre is nothing but a distant memory. Maybe in some people's minds. Being a true Brett Favre fan, I found myself missing some Packer games. Losing interest, has my time passed? No more urgently waiting to watch the Green Bay Packers on the frozen tundra. Turned out maybe I wasn’t so much a Green Bay Packer fan but more of a Brett Favre fan. His love of the game kept me glued to the tv. Jumping in excitement as Brett pulled off another win with seconds left in the game. I haven’t seen another quarterback since with his enthusiasm for the game.
My husband Gary still watches and I find myself glancing at the tv on occasion as I read. My Interest had waned, but underneath it all……
Once a Packer fan, forever a Packer fan.
