Gary My Garage Man
Where Is Your Husband?
My husband loves to tinker, and by that, I mean, projects. We have so many tasks that need his attention. Will they ever get done? That is the million-dollar question. He is in the garage, his favorite place in our home besides the recliner. Gary has built himself a workshop, I visited yesterday to see how it was going and was seriously impressed. I told him so. He made a wall to separate our three-car garage. The wall was installed by Gary on the right-hand side of the first stall. He has a work bench on the opposite side. For him to work comfortably in the wintertime he needed it heated.
Up Went The Wall
So, up went the wall. It was impressive to see. It is insulated and covered in OSB. In addition, he also put in a ceiling above hisworkshop, where before it was rafters, it now has a finished look and is ready for insulation. Gary also built shelving, deep shelving. It has a power bar attached,so he can plug in his DeWalt tools. The shelving reaches to the ceiling. There is also a heater Gary put in to help keep the place warm. Very much needed. It was warm in there when I went to see what he was up to the other day. It is below zero here in Wisconsin this week, so the garage felt good.
Gary also installed a hoist for snowmobiles, lawnmowers, or whatever else he decided to repair. That is on the ceiling. The man amazes me with what he can accomplish.
Handyman
I knew he was handy when we started renovating our house, from flooring to electrical, to tearing down a cement wall that was in the way of our adding on a bedroom. He has done it all. Occasionally he asks for help, but if he can do it himself, he prefers it that way. He takes his time and completes the job right the first time. I’ve seen him sitting just looking at something, trying to figure out the best way to tackle the mess ahead of him.
Again, The Garage
Between napping, which is another one of his favorite pastimes, he is in the garage. The number of tools he has is ridiculous. As of right now his workbench is under siege. The counter has disappeared beneath tools, boxes, rags, oil, and whatever else he will eventually reorganize on his shelving. I let him do what he wants in the garage; it is his domain.
The House
Our upstairs is a work in progress; we have one bedroom and a bathroom that needs a redo. Retro-sixties is not in style; pink is no longer acceptable. I wait patiently; if you know me, that is the hardest thing for me to do. My patience level lowers the older I get. I would love to see it done. We have looked at showers and have the tile for the bathroom, but so far, Gary hasn’t had the time or incentive to start. The bedroom would be the most effortless room to finish because bathrooms always require more work. So, I will keep my fingers crossed and continue waiting. I know he will get to it at one point.
My Husbands Passion
But for now, the garage is his passion. I hate to dissuade him working out there. He loves it and spends hours out there. It gives me room to work in the house, cleaning, laundry, floors, bedding. It is never ending with two dogs in the house. Some part of the house can always be cleaned.
For now, I will leave him in his garage. It is his mancave-every guy should have one. It keeps him happy and puts a smile on his face, and that is worth the wait for the upstairs.
My husband Gary-the man who knows how to fix anything. Every wife should have a Gary.
