Better Than I hoped For

IRA’s, 401k’s, all of it really confuses the heck out of me. Back in the 80’s working in a factory, while raising my kids an opportunity came my way, in the form of a 401k. The place I worked at offered it at no cost to the employee. Of course, you could contribute if you wanted to. Raising three kids on my own there was no way that was even an option. But I did sign up and the factory I worked for put in the money on my behalf.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

As busy as I was, I didn't think twice about it for years. After my youngest graduated and moved out, working in a factory had lost its appeal. While it was a life saver for me while raising my kids (it was a steady paycheck) I felt out of sorts and ready to move on.

Let's Move On

Upon giving my two weeks' notice I was given paperwork for my 401k. After all those years at the factory I had a tidy little nest egg. Working in law enforcement was a welcome change for me. Moving to a strange city to a new job was exciting and scary at the same time. My 401k moved with me. Remembering my meeting with my financial advisor at the time. He told me to leave it, don’t change things, and ride out the good times with the bad. So for thirty plus years I did nothing with my 401k. It stayed with me on course through three or four different jobs. Working at a pharmacy was in my future, they had their own start up with a 401k, so now I found myself with two of them. After leaving the pharmacy after four and a half years of employment I started a job in the city I lived in.

I Googled of Course

Thinking it was foolish to have two different 401k’s I wanted to find a financial advisor in the city I lived in. I googled and found Adam Smit Investment Management LLC. Better yet he was right up the road from where I lived.

Best Thing I've Ever Done

I called and made an appointment with Adam. We had a face-to-face meeting and we spoke at length about what I wanted to do with the money I had. I knew combining them was something that needed to be done. Adam said he could do that for me. There was paperwork that needed to be filled out and forms to be signed. Adam made the entire experience comfortable and easy.

He asked me to fill out a questionnaire asking what I wanted to happen with my money. Did I want it to hold steady but barely increase or was I a risk taker? Turns out I’m a bit of a risk taker. It takes money to make money. Sometimes it’s necessary to go out on a limb and take a chance. You win some, you lose some. I am willing to take that chance.

Ride It Out

My previous financial advisor was nothing like Adam. He did not keep in contact with me and made no effort whatsoever to get together with me to discuss changes. Adam does all these things. We had a meeting today and got caught up with everything. Adam always says, (ride it out Wendy) so that’s what I do.

It Is All About Adam

It helps that Adam and I have one thing in particular in common. We are both runners. So, talking to him seems easy. We discuss running, races, along with, (what I think of as boring), my IRA. He is a numbers person, me being a word girl, numbers confuse me as well as bore me to tears. So, I am glad I have Adam who can figure it all out for me. He does. He is fantastic with it and he puts my mind at ease.

Adam’s professionalism and hometown pleasantness makes our meetings go fast. It’s always a pleasure to see him and I know my money is in great hands. Plus, I have that added ease. He is right down the road from me.

If you are ever in need of financial advice, I highly recommend Adam.

Once again go to Adam Smit Investment Management LLC. You will be glad you did.
