At Last
Friday at 4:00 pm we will have Ernie back for his (hopefully) final vet visit. The last of his staples need to come out. It looks like the hole closed up on his side. Thank God. A daily cleaning of peroxide and then applying Neosporin has helped. It will be a blessing to be done with this whole traumatizing event. One I never want to experience again. I’m quite sure Ernie feels the same.
A Walk Is a Walk
Our walks are not the same. Walking from one park to the next; and then walking the frisbee golf trail across from the park. Wooded areas make me think of bears. In the morning there are numerous deer flies that annoy both Ernie and me. They land in my hair and circle around Ernie’s body. Pesky things. I’ve done away with a lot of them on our walks and am not one bit sorry.
No Dogs Around
The good thing is we have not come across one dog on our walks through the wooded areas. The park is a different story, but I am always on the alert. As soon as I see one, we go in the opposite direction. Ernie doesn’t notice them as he is normally too busy sniffing. He does come across their scent occasionally. Nose to the ground, he loves to sniff. Our walks are more like walk, stop, walk, stop so Ernie can sniff. While sniffing, Ernie pays no attention to anything around him. We have had dogs walk by and he doesn’t notice them. That is a good thing in my book because I am not sure if the dogs are friendly or not. While I think socializing a dog is important, Ernie is 12 now so that should have been done a long time ago; long before we had him. It is what it is now. On prior walks before his attack, we would greet dogs, but I am more leery of them now. My belief is that it's better to avoid dogs now. Especially big dogs.
No More Surgeries Please
Thankful he didn’t need another surgery; this last visit should go by relatively fast. They only need to remove stitches and we are done. Hopefully we will be in and out of the vet in a half hours' time. Ernie will not miss a return visit, and neither will I. The vet is super nice, but I do believe Ernie and I have both had enough of seeing her.
Life Goes On
As they say, let life go on now. Enjoy what is left of the rest of our summer. Before too long the cold months will set in and I am not quite sure what we will be doing for our walks. We will not be able to do the frisbee golf trail because it will not be plowed. I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, Ernie is enjoying his walks. He still does try to head uptown though. Steering him in a different direction isn’t hard. He loves his walks so wherever we travel he is good with it.
So, nose to the ground and let’s go!
Sidenote: Ernie's visit was a success! Back to living our lives.
