You Look Like Me
They say everyone has a doppelgänger out there in the world. Someone who looks exactly like you. Wouldn’t it be fascinating to come face to face with them? It would be a little like looking in a mirror, without a mirror.
A Stanley Way of Thinking
Gary and I were at a fair and a guy came up to me and told me I looked exactly like someone he knew. Spitting image, he said. My husband Gary said he made the whole thing up because he just wanted to talk to me. Gary and his Stanley way of thinking. That’s what I tell him anyway.
Plain Jane
Someone else looks just like me. That’s unfortunate for them because I am an ordinary looking girl. Passable is what I 'am. There are great beauties in this world, but I am not one of them. I get by. That’s all I need to do. Some people excel with what God gave them. I plow stubbornly ahead, refusing to stop, look, or listen.
It's German
Doppelgänger is a German word. Its definition is a person who is an exact double to you. Right down to the way they walk, talk, dress and act. Google has a reverse image search if you really want to get to the meat and bones of the thing and search for your doppelgänger. Be careful what you wish for. Apparently, there are more than one, they say we each have at least six doppelgängers. Kind of scary and yet oddly intensively exhilarating. The word doppelgänger is also associated with bad luck. An evil twin lurking somewhere out of sight. Waiting, ready, willing and able to take over your life as you know it. Maybe it’s better not to look for your double. Better off leaving this to your imagination.
A Direct Encounter with Yourself
Meeting your doppelgänger is equivalent to a direct encounter with oneself. A sharing of the same personality and appearance. It would be earthquaking and somewhat dangerous. Coming face to face with oneself would be life altering. Your life as you know it will cease to exist. This doppelgänger may choose to seek you out for nefarious reasons. Nothing good will come with a meet and greet.
Or on the other hand maybe this doppelgänger, this exact replica of you is just curious. They want to know you. They could replace you. Poof, you are gone, they have taken your place. No one is wiser. Nobody seems to have noticed, you are not you anymore. This alien being this circus clown has stolen your life. They have placed you in an alternate universe. A place where you are neither here nor there. You can see what is happening but cannot interfere. Standing by hopelessly while this person takes over what used to be your life.
Doppelgangers are Hoppers
Doppelgängers are hoppers, hopping into one's life, chaos ensues sending you into a tailspin. Up is down, left is right, everything is kiddy Wampus. Your own self is in question. Who are you? Images of your life flash before your eyes. Is this real or is the doppelgänger projecting what they want you to see? Shattering images of a life not your own. Your sense of self is destroyed, torn down, ripped apart, never to be seen again. This is what a doppelgänger does. Pandemonium sets in. Madness, mayhem, and disorder control your life. The doppelgänger has won. You exist no more. They have morphed into you and became you. Their eyes simmer with triumph, and their bodies quiver with pleasure. Unholy exists as we know it and it looks like you.
Let’s all leave the doppelgängers where they belong. In our minds only.
Side note: My mind travels to the strangest places sometimes.
