The Twist
Do you think you are a good dancer? Has someone told you you that are? Or did you just make a determination on your own? Back in the day I thought I was alright at dancing. Trust me, I’m no John Travolta. But I could hold my own. There were many nights spent on the dance floor when I was in my twenties and thirties. After that I pretty much stopped going out at all. My dancing days were done. As of right now I do not know if I could get out on the dance floor. Most of the time if I am somewhere where there is dancing, a wedding or social gathering I sit it out. Especially weddings, I feel as if the dancing is for the young. I’m 64 now I’m quite sure nobody wants to see me twisting and gyrating out on the dance floor. Just the thought of it gives me the scares.
Back In the Day
I feel as if the music back when I was growing up was more suited to dancing then what I am hearing now. If I don’t know the song, I don’t believe I could go out and dance. At weddings the chicken dance is always popular. I sit that one out also. I think I’ve made a fool of myself enough in my youth I don’t need to continue to do so. Am I a stick in the mud? Nope, just someone who would rather watch from afar then get out on the dance floor and shake my bootie.
I’ve seen bad dancers in my time. Twisting and jerking their way across the dance floor. As if to say hey, look at me. I’d rather not. Can’t they tell they cannot dance. Some of them look as if they are having an electric shock treatment. I get embarrassed for them. But then again maybe I’m the cynic and they really are good dancers. To each his own, I guess.
Always Seinfeld
I will always remember the Seinfeld episode where Elaine dances at an office party. Her moves were less than spectacular, resulting in a very comedic and funny show. I am sure she doesn’t dance like that in real life, but I’ve been places and seen people who do. What they don’t realize is people are watching and laughing. Or maybe they do realize, and they don’t care. A free spirit, someone who doesn’t care what others think of them.
Some people act like they are in an acrobatic class when they dance. Laying on the floor spinning in a circle. Taking up the entire dance floor with their antics. Someone who loves an audience and doesn’t care what they act like to get one.
Synchrony
Then there are those who glide across the floor, entwined together in perfect sync with one another. They’ve taken dance lessons and knew their way around a dance floor. It’s fun watching them. Or like the most elegant ballerina, perfectly in sync with every move.
I really love to watch those who do not know how try to polka. This normally happens at weddings. Their awkward movements are jerky and uncoordinated. If you’ve been drinking it’s hilariously funny.
Myself, I’ll leave the dancing for those who enjoy it. I love watching and occasionally poking fun at people. Hey nobody is perfect right.
Next time you’re out there remember someone is watching.
Make it memorable for them.
