It Surrounds Us
Are you the pot stirrer? Do you love to surround yourself with drama? Is your world more exciting when it’s a cyclone of chaos? If so, you may be a drama queen or king.
Work Drama Is the Worst
When I think of drama I think of the workplace. It’s a haven of different chemistries and personalities. Passive aggressive, ass kissers who love nothing better than to sink their teeth into your life causing friction and drama. Leave me out of it. I for one can't stand the constant backstabbing that goes on in the workplace.
Mostly Women
It seems as if it’s women who are the culprits. Men do not seem to thrive off of drama the way women do. Tell a woman a secret about a co-worker and wait and see how long it takes before the entire place knows about it. From one ear to the next the rumor spreads like wildfire. Before you know it, it has grown, expanded, and taken on a life of its own. Did you hear what so and so did? Oh my God.
Treat People Well
Treat everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve. Set boundaries, do not overstep them. Last but not least, always remain professional. It isn’t always easy, but it is the best way to avoid drama. Above all else, avoid gossip. The number one cause of drama is gossip. He said, she said, turns into a nightmare quickly. You may feel like you are submerged in quicksand very quickly if the gossip spins out of control and takes on a life of its own.
A toxic work environment is rife with drama. Bullying, negative attitudes, limited opportunities, people rewarded for lazy unethical behavior. Once you are surrounded by this it’s hard to get out of it. Going into work with a toxic environment can cause unnecessary stress and anxiety. Who needs it?
How do you get out of a situation such as this? If you are often full of anxiety at your current job, or maybe the job just isn’t you. Get out, quit, give your two weeks' notice. There is always another job around the corner. Staying at a workplace where you feel out of place, or like you don’t fit in isn't good for you.
Correct Your Attitude
Trying to have an upbeat attitude is great. Having it smashed down throughout your workday is life altering and detrimental to your health. Get out, get out, get out. I cannot say it enough times. Life's too short to spend it miserable.
Be Professional
There is such a thing as professionalism. I live by the rules. Treat people with the respect they deserve. People who are professional communicate clearly and concisely. There is no under the table talk. They respect their coworkers and act accordingly. This kind of environment is the only kind I’d want to be working in. Walk the walk and talk the talk. Do not engage in gossip. Do not talk about people behind their backs. The above examples are hard for most people to follow. It’s easier to immerse yourself in the drama. Get caught up in it. Before you know it, it’s become you. You are the drama.
Do not let it consume you. Get out and run as fast as you can.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
