Do My Eyes Deceive Me
Football season is here, and my husband Gary is right on board. He is a Green Bay Packer fan but will watch whoever is playing. Me, I’m not into football that much and will on occasion glance at the tv when the Packers play. I’d rather read a good book.
All that rough and tumble stuff is watched by millions. Many on the edge of their seats wondering if the team they love will win the game.
Normally at one point during the game one of the players will get hurt. It is a hard game with a lot of physical contact. Sometimes when a player goes down, they do not get back up.
Too Many Injuries
Concussions are common among football players, broken bones, whether it is fingers, legs, etc., it happens. Pads and helmets help but not always. You have to be young and tough, unless your name is Tom Brady. He is an enigma. 45 years old and was still playing the game. Unheard of. He retired, but not really, he came back and retired again. Is he gone for good now? Tom Brady ranks up there as one of the many greats who have played before him.
Football Fans
Football is a little like politics. No one wants to hear anything bad about the team they love. They are one hundred percent behind their team. Number one fan. I’ve seen Green Bay Packer fans in the middle of winter standing in the stadium bare chested. I’m not sure what they are trying to accomplish besides getting hypothermia. But I do believe they have every right to express their love for the team anyway they want to.
Good sportsmanship should always come into play. It doesn’t though. Some fans get physical, it doesn’t help that alcohol is served at the games. Many times, people with alcohol in their system believe they are invincible. Right up until they get punched in the face by an overzealous fan from a team not their own.
There is a lot of showboating by players. I thought this kind of behavior was banned. Although I still see it on occasion.
Stadium seats are oftentimes packed with fans. Squished together like sardines in a can. This doesn’t seem to bother any of them. Perhaps once again it’s the alcohol they have consumed. I’ve often wondered how they can tell what’s going on during the game, after drinking a few beers. Eyes glassy and slurred speech accompany many as they exit the game. Fights in the parking lot have happened more than once. Go home and sober up. Things won’t look as bad the next morning. Or maybe the outlook will be worse.
Green Bay Packer Fans
Some say there are no better fans than Green Bay Packer fans. True blue staying until the end of the game fans. No getting up in the fourth quarter and leaving before the game ends. Staying until the bitter end. Win or lose. The fans do not leave. This is true. I've been to games where they have won and lost. No one leaves. It’s the Lombardi legacy.
Gary is a true Packer fan, but he does not attend games. Many times, he will DVR the game and watch it later. Skipping through commercials. He cannot stand to watch them lose though and will turn off the tv in disgust. Only to turn it on later and see they have done it once again. They’ve come back to win the game. I always tell him, “Oh Yee of little faith.”
I’m sure every fan feels as my husband does about their team. They want them to win. Succeed, go to the Super Bowl.
It's Overrated
Me, I think the whole thing is overrated. They get paid too much, although they do provide entertainment. Plus, it keeps Gary glued to the tv for a good portion of the day. I’d rather watch my grandkids play. They don’t even get paid. But they love the game.
One question though, who is Americas team?
