Libraries one of my favorite places

I am an avid book reader. Visiting the local library is something I enjoy and do on a bi-weekly basis. There are so many different books to choose from. I tend to go in the same direction often. Murder, mystery, serial killer books are what I pursue. That being said, I've been known to read a romance book from time to time. Colleen Hoover is an author that comes to mind when I talk about romance. Although I enjoy her writing I can only read so many of her books before I have had enough. I believe my streak is three in a row.  She does series.

I Love Gory

I soon find myself looking for a book about murder, death and mystery. Who knows why I enjoy them. If you read my posts, you know Dean Koontz is my go-to author. He is the one whose books I read consistently. Let’s move forward. Reading books by other authors is one of the things I do also. Diversity is a good thing in this life we live.

I'm My Own Author

Having written three children's books myself, I donated one of them to our local library. An older lady who works there asked me if I was the author of Squishy Squashy Benny Mossy one day when I went looking for a book to read. I told her I was. She went on to say she loved my book. Thought it was the cutest book ever. It is nice to be acknowledged once in a while.

Writing this blog is the closest I will come to having a book published. While I love to read and write. I know my limitations. They say the sky's the limit, which I concur, but reality sets in after rejection letters start piling up in the mailbox. Magazines do not want my stories so I will pester all who read this post instead. Actually, I’ve only received one rejection letter from one magazine. By the time I received that I was knee deep in starting up my blog.

Authors

Authors amaze me constantly with their talent. I wish I had it. Instead, I read and enjoy other people's work. I’m always looking for the next new author. The next new book about a deranged neighbor, ex-boyfriend, housekeeper, or crooked cop. All books are interesting, but fiction is what I live for. Not to say I do not enjoy documentaries. True to life stories are fascinating, the world is full of interesting people who accomplish extraordinary things. Overcoming adversity, struggling to survive. Keeps my eyes peeled to the book as I turn the pages.

Kindles Not So Much

Kindles I do not do anymore. I've had one, but there is something to be said about cracking open a book and turning the pages. I love books, hardcover, softcover, it doesn’t matter. What matters is what is inside.

If your day starts out in a bad way, open a book. It instantly gets better. Losing track of time is something that happens to me. Starting a book in the morning, I’ll look up and it’s dark outside. The day is gone, I’ve gotten nothing accomplished. That is alright once in a while. It doesn’t happen over here that often anymore. Although it used to.

My favorite things in the world are my family, friends, running, books, and my dogs. I cannot imagine my life without any of them.

Traveling

If I had the money I would travel and go to all the libraries around the United States. I know what the library is like where I live, but what about elsewhere? Libraries are not all the same, some are big, some are small. Ours is on the small side. We live in a small city. My husband and I reside outside city limits, which is how we like it. The library isn’t far away so visiting is something I love to do. I enjoy talking to the people who work there. Or people who are browsing for books. We trade favorite authors and share how much we liked a book we just returned.

Storytime

Libraries can be used for other things; they have computers if you need internet service. Storytime for the kids is I am sure a big hit. Who doesn’t love their local library? But for me it is all about the books. Spending the afternoon there is something I could do. Normally I check out three books at a time. I find myself in the Large Print section occasionally. I’m getting old. Enough said about that.

Is It Time Yet

Monday you will find me back at the library. I’ll be all weekend with nothing to read since I returned my books on Saturday at the drop off box. If you haven’t already, check out the local library where you live. Lose yourself for an hour or so. It does the body good.

I'm already having withdrawals.
