Is It Me
It seems as if when the weather turns cold, I cannot get warmed up. My feet are cold, my hands are cold. I’m sitting here in the living room covered with a blanket. Is this an age thing? I’d like to hear from people and see if it happens to them, or if it’s just me. The photo above shows you my attitude when winter shows its face. Blah.
Socks are something I wear constantly now. I’m used to going barefoot but it’s cold outside and inside. The heat is set at seventy so it shouldn’t be cool here, but there is a dampness in the air. I cannot seem to get rid of it. Is it because the sun doesn’t shine half the time now? No sun today, just cloudy skies and dreary days.
We all need the sun. It energizes us, gets us up off the couch, and enriches our day. Days with no sun can seem long and uneventful.
Hot Tubs Are the Best
My husband Gary and I frequently use our hot tub. Especially now with cold weather setting in. Sinking down into 104-degree water feels dang good. The only bad part is getting out and into the house. It’s freezing.
When I get dressed in the morning, I want to shut the bathroom door and turn my little portable heater onto 90. It feels so warm I could stay in there for hours. Entering the bedroom sends a chill through me. It’s always cooler in the bedroom. It is an addition onto our home and is on a cement slab. There is a patio door on my husband's side of the bed and the floor over there is cold. I avoid it.
Sitting and reading is something I enjoy. A blanket is necessary otherwise the cold seeps into my bones and I cannot get warmed up. When I was younger, I don’t remember being this cold during the winter. So, it must be an age thing. Either that or I was just used to being cold, so my body acclimated to it.
Maybe Arizona
Wishing we lived somewhere other than Wisconsin during these cold months is something that happens daily. The temperature hasn’t even been that cold yet and I’m already fearing below zero. I’d rather have snow than below zero. My concern is not only for me but the animals who have to survive in this weather outdoors. I’m not quite sure how they do it. I know many do not survive the winter and its harsh conditions. The wind alone is chilling and many times unrelenting. Wisconsin winters can be long and devastating. Storms and heavy snow break off tree limbs that fall on power lines and we have an electrical outage. Praying that doesn’t happen this year. Last year was horrible with many people without power for days.
I will wish for an early Spring. Winter is overrated. Gary likes it because of snowmobiling. Me, I cannot think of anything I’d do outdoors in the winter. I’d be a bear and hibernate until better weather comes along.
For now, I’ll wrap myself up in the warmest blanket I can find and put on my thickest pair of socks and my heaviest sweater. A hot chocolate sounds good, along with a good book.
I’ll see you all on the flip side of this weather. Spring cannot come too soon.
I wish winter would take a vacation and leave us alone.
