See Ya
Summer is coming to a conclusion. If I had it my way it would never end. But alas, I do not. The days are currently the right temperature. Many people love the 70’s. Cool mornings. This morning when Ernie and I walked it was 50 degrees outside. Jacket weather. I still had my shorts on because I refuse to wear pants yet. My summer is continuing. It was a pleasant walk. Ernie loves the cooler temps. He is a dog after all.
Bye, Bye Flowers
My flowers are winding down. My hanging basket has been tossed. It looked terrible. My begonias are still thriving. They look beautiful. I’ve never had such colorful begonias as this year. I am thrilled with them and wish I could keep them all winter. My castor bean plants grew taller this year than many previous summers. I am keeping them going as long as I can. My Hosta's did wonderfully. I planted a ton of them alongside the garage and one shed.
Darn Rabbits
My garden on the other hand did not fare as well. I planted three pepper plants, two of them produced and one did not. Green beans were planted also and starting to come up until the rabbits ate them all. Cucumbers did mediocre, everything I picked, I ate. I can count on both hands how many cucumbers I got.
The rabbits also ate my lilies. Never got to see one Lilly. Why this summer and never any other summer? It’s a mystery.
Mowing Is Good for Me
Still mowing the lawn. That’s not over yet. Tomorrow will be another day of mowing for me. I’m working today so I’ll leave the grass for another day. With all the rain we got this summer our grass is growing like a weed. No brown grass for us in August.
The morning are darker now and darkness falls quicker at night. It’s been starting to get dark at 7;30 and by 8pm it’s nighttime. Gary and I get tired earlier and go to bed earlier. Except when I work. I get home around 10:20 and do not normally fall asleep until after 11pm.
It’s a futile exercise trying to keep summer alive so we will go with the flow. Fall is beautiful but let’s skip over what comes next.
Cooler weather means more clothes. More clothes to wear and more clothes to wash. Cold weather means hats, gloves, winter jackets and boots.
Summer Please
Let’s go back to summer. Gary and I will drag out our fire pit and put it to use. Nighttime on the patio with a fire, some marshmallows, chocolate. Yum. There is nothing quite so beautiful as sitting under the stars in the country. It’s so quiet, maybe crickets or frogs making noise. A lone coyote howling. When I was a kid we lived in the country, but I didn’t appreciate it. Always wanted to live in the city. Did that and now would not want to be anywhere else but the country. Serenity.
Summers come and summers go. Time goes by so quickly now. Gary and I are in our sixties. Where did our youth go? Now we think of 40 as young. Guess we'll just keep plugging away. See what life tosses at us next. Dogs come and dogs go. We have one left now and he’s almost 14. Life passes us by before we know it.
We look in the mirror and do not recognize the face looking back at us. Where did we go? What happened?
And who is this old person looking at us.
