Why?
I understand why deer hunting has to happen. Herd control. I do not like it, but it is a part of life, not mine but many people. What I do not understand is why people think they should to go to Africa to hunt lion, giraffes (why would you kill a giraffe?) antelope or any other wild animal who lives there. Killing a giraffe has to be the saddest thing in the world. They don’t hurt anyone, they are grazers, (same as deer) not carnivores. A peaceful animal at risk of being shot because some guy has the need to feel important. Look at me. I am a big man I shot an innocent giraffe. It makes me ill thinking about it. Taking the life of an innocent.
Safaris Yes Please
A safari, I wouldn’t mind going on safari in Africa. Not to shoot anything but observe the animals in their natural habitat. Nature is cruel enough, adding man into the mix just makes it that much worse. It would be more enjoyable to observe, from a distance the antelope, zebra, lion, cheetah, and my favorite the elephants. No guns allowed.
Is It Worth It?
Men pay thousands of dollars to kill. I don’t understand it and I do not condone it. Overrated and nauseating I feel so badly for the animals who are hunted. I’ve heard some are penned in an area, then hunted. Granted it is a big area in which they are hunted, but there is no escape for them. Sooner or later, they will be dead. It is a guaranteed kill. What a loss, what a sad situation. I’d like to ask the hunters what they gain out of it. Do they mount the head on their wall at home? Does this make them feel superior? Do they look at the head mounted in their living room in awe? No way I'd have a dead animal in my house on the wall. Ugh, it breaks open my heart. I’ve just googled the cost of hunting a lion. It can cost anywhere from $55,000 up to $100,000. My question is why you would pay that kind of money to hunt and kill a wild animal? Is it the rush of taking a life? Because I’m thinking they will not be eating the meat. The animal is a trophy for them. I cannot wrap my head around it. If they have money to waste on that, they should rewire their thinking. Maybe give the money to a charity. Kids with cancer, at least it would go to a good cause. Saving an animal's life in the process.
Poor Lions
Many people do not know this but there are more than 300 breeding facilities in South Africa specifically designed for lions, who when grown will be hunted and killed. The number of lions at these facilities can be anywhere from 10,000 to 12,000. That is a lot of lions who will lose their lives. It’s a sad but true fact.
Cruelty
If it were up to me, trophy hunting would be banned. Many hunters use cruel methods to ensnare and kill a wild animal. Their goal is not to get meat to eat, it is to obtain animal parts, like heads, paws, or hides. Using bait and hounds in not hunting. Hunting involves the hunter and the animal, not bait food or dogs to trap and tree a bear only to have the hunter shoot it. That’s cruelty in its purest form. Empathy for animals. I wish we all had it.
Unfortunately, there are plenty out there who do not!
