Forever Young
Going to the movies with my grandkids is fun for me as well as them. Most of the movies we see are entertaining. Who knew I’d still like children’s movies at the age of 63? Although we went to see one the other night, I struggled with it. Couldn’t make heads nor tails of it. When we left the movie theater, I asked my 13-year-old grandson if he liked the movie. He told me he loved it. My other grandson is nine, so I wanted his opinion. He told me at times it was hard to follow a lot of different things going on at once. He is nine going on nineteen. His head is full of knowledge, and he asks a lot of questions because that is how you learn. Elliot is intensely inquisitive just the way I want him to be. Apparently, the movie we saw was part two. There was a movie beforehand that I didn’t see. That is the reason I didn’t understand this one. Understandable now. Grandkids keep me young.
Grandkids
Staying young at heart is beneficial and I believe will aid in prolonging my life. Having grandkids who keep me busy helps. Gary and I are always attending ballgames, whether it be baseball, football, basketball. We are there. Encouraging them, cheering them on and video recording their games. Memories made to keep and cherish.
Stay Busy
Why be an old fuddy duddy who wants to stay home and do nothing? Go visit your family, they keep you young. There is a whole world out there to explore and I for one am up to it. My husband Gary may disagree and loves nothing more than staying home and sitting in the recliner. Most days anyway, even he gets stagnant and feels the need to get out of the house. What does young at heart mean? It is an older person who has a youthful outlook on life. They say staying active adds years to your life. I say if it makes you feel good do it. We only get one go around in life. Make the most of it while you can. Count your blessings every day, get the negative Nancy’s out of your life. Surround yourself with positive people who share ideas that jive with your own.
Is It a Mental Thing
Staying young at heart doesn’t only mean physically but mentally also. The right attitude will bring the right people into your inner circle. Make that circle shine. Dullness and boredom have no place in this world. Energy and the willingness to try anything if even just one time is what captures my attention.
Do What You Want
Go on a picnic, go out for breakfast, head down to the local fair. Take in a circus if that’s what you enjoy. Gary goes to motorcycle races. It’s his thing. He used to do it and now enjoys watching others compete. He is also an avid golfer. It’s something he enjoys and is maybe the tiniest bit competitive about. We all need these activities in our lives. To sit around and do nothing all day takes a toll on even the strongest person.
Look at the world through the eyes of your grandkids. See the world as they see it. Become a child again through them. Go fly a kite, or go tubing down the river. The main thing is to stay busy because if you do not. The only thing you have to look forward to is aging. That’s no fun.
Step outside your box, you may like it so much you’ll stay!
